But Mk3 and 4 targeted the Vettes and GTRs of their time. So which philosophy will they go with? The 86 project was a 'back to their roots', so it's possible they do that with the Supra. Stretched 86 chassis with 6 cylinder, Z competitor?

MK4 Supra actually shared platforms with the Lexus SC. The Supra's plaform was just about 3 inches shorter than the SC. |

I bet Toyota will utilize some tech from the LFA to keep cost down and land the Supra in the 70-80k range. that would put it pretty much between the Corvette and GTR/Viper in pricing. of course we are all just guessing at this point though. |

So what do upwardly mobile 86 owners do for an upgrade? Go to Nissan and the 370Z?

Who knows, maybe the next generation Genesis coupe may improve to the point where it's considered a move up from the 86, but not yet a Supra competitor. It's about, how do you go from the 86 to the Supra?

With a sub 86 car in the works the next gen 86/FR-S could move up class abit. Sub 86 car $20k or less FR-S could end up being a $30k car FT-1 could have a base model at $50k and than have a higher trim at $60k. $25k-$30k isn't that big of a price gap to a $50k-$60k FT-1. I mean Nissan has even a bigger price gap between the 370z and GT-R. |

if toyota were to fill every price range they would need alot more than 3 sports car to do so. I think 50k is a reasonable starting price for a new supra. Besides that is what toyota has already hinted at so that is what I will go on. |

Way, way back, they did Corolla (pre-AE86 SR5), Celica, then Celica-Supra. With the 86 filling the Celica middle position, the Supra on its way and maybe the entry level coming it makes sense. But in this case I can't see the Supra being in the same performance class as the Mk 3 and 4 of their era given the performance of current GTR and Vette. Although they now have performance precedence in Lexus with the LFA and ISF. What Toyota has also shown us is that they are trying to shake up brand perceptions, to I wouldn't be surprised if they reserved the highest performance model for Lexus. Also consider that their last GT500 entry was a Lexus SC. We will see, I guess.

I refuse to believe a car with Twin turbo V6 is only 200-300 lbs heavier than the 4 cylinders Frs.
Also 2+2 to be lighter than C7 by 400-500lbs... And performance is to be 25% better for the same price of 60k or so.... Nah...noh....nohway |

No way they could compete with today's technology for just $57K?. This sucker is going to need a very, very fast double clutch transmission, launch control and the whole bit.
Too bad the real car won't look nothing like the show car, the US Car Safety peeps won't, sadly, allow it. They keeping this one a straight six too like the others? Last edited by LBC Por Siempre; 02-09-2014 at 12:38 PM. |

Where did you see it was going to be 2+2? Everything I've seen looked like it was a two seater only.
