I'm doing the 2017 bumper upgrade on my 2013 and got the OLM ones for Xmas. I had fog lights, but I'm not putting them back in...

Forgive me if this is a dumb question...I know nothing about wiring or electrical type stuff

Is it possible to hook the vertical DRL's up to the fog light wiring?

Im thinking of getting these soon. What is the best way to install them? If you ground the negative and then just fuse splice them into the DRL fuse, would they turn on and off with the boomerang DRLs? What is the switch they come with for then?

Then I took the power wire from the harness into the cabin and used a fuse tap to tap it into the DRL fuse which is under the steering wheel. It's a 90% solution. The DRLs don't function exactly like the normal boomerangs. The JDM DRLs only run when the engine is running. and don't turn off with the hand brake.

If you want exactly the same behavior as the boomerang DRLs. You would ground wire in similar way as above. Then tap the power into the headlight wire that powers the DRLs. I didn't want to do this because the headlight wiring is not exposed. So you would have to cut open wiring loom.

If you need more detail let me know.

Thanks for the information. I plan to get the JDM Kit which comes with all the harness and turn on/off switch (Ft86speedfactory $400)
I also got the interior panel and will mount it as the Japanese version.
Based on your description, do you have /use the switch that comes together with the kit?
Do you know whether the 2018/2019 have a prewiring to install the kit directly ?
Last question, does it to take out the bumper?

Thanks

I bought the same kit as you. If I remember correctly(which could be wrong since it was awhile ago). These aren't plug and play because the US cars have different harnesses under the steering wheel and for the lights. So where this kit would plug into there is no plug on US spec cars. So I think you'd either have to buy a JDM harness for under the steering column and for the lights. Other wise you'll have to make a custom harness.(you could use the JDM switch to the custom harness) Good luck on the mod one of my favorites!

Just got a little puzzled. The kit I will get is this:

https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/sub...l#.XQlI1Ov0mUk

and in the description, it says that all OEM compenents are inside. converting some of those harnessing that is included to a custom made is enough. Do I have to purchase any other harness? I thought they are all JDM and have everything inside the kit.

Thanks

I was just sharing the fact that the US BRZ wiring harness doesn't have plug and play compatibility with this kit. I had to purchase additional wiring supplies to get this to work. I am not a wiring expert and so maybe I did something wrong.

Also I did not have to remove the bumper to install these lights.

Dear Elliotw,

I really appreciate your time and the experience you shared. You are the only person I got information regarding these DRLs.

Thanks for the information and it will help me a lot.

Thanks again

Japanparts.com has the lights for $364 for the pair. Those are the original ones.

Quick question, off topic (sorry). The yellow brz, which side skirts do you have, they look great! Thanks

The shipping is around $30 + 364 = ~ $400
Same as the one that speedfactory has.
I think japanparts is selling the same.
I don’t know why the manufacturer part number H4517CA100 is not listed.

I don’t know if anyone has figured these out, but if not, I will be tackling this in a few weeks once I get my bumper back from being painted. I’m doing the MY17+ bumper conversion. I’m dropping my fog lights, and I’m hoping to wire these into the stock DRL harness, which hopefully will all work with my DD Always On kit.
