Schroth Racing Rallye 3 ASM Harnesses .. what a difference
I have to say I am really impressed with the quality and simplicity of the harnesses, even with OEM seats they keep me in place and installation was pretty straightforward ... I can definitely recommend these harnesses for those who look for a simple and cost effective upgrade..
and a video with the harnesses [ame="http://youtu.be/2JDtUJGLag0"]http://youtu.be/2JDtUJGLag0[/ame]

Nice! I used to have the Schroth Quick-Fit harnesses in my GTI. I ended up selling them and replaced them with a CG Lock. It's too bad it doesn't fit on the FRS/BRZ seat belts so it looks like I'll have to give Schroth more of my money.
Btw, I think the shoulder straps are supposed to go between the headrest posts. |

I think either way will work with this harness because the shoulder belts come to a single point. If it were a harness with separate shoulder belts, I can see needing something to keep them from pulling off the shoulders. But with the Schroth design, as they tighten they'll pull together.

Just skimmed the NASA CCR and for HPDE, these belts are not certified for NASA HPDE/TT nor SCCA PDX. It makes me sad, because I was eyeing these exact belts for track days.

If they are not designed for the FT86 then I'd stick with stock, which in find to work just as well as the Rallye harness (had them in an M3 years ago). Just scoot the seat back a couple clicks, tighten belts, jerk the belt quickly to lock it, lean forward on belts to keep locked, scoot seat forward. Takes a little practice, but the stock belts can really hold you in quite well.

This is not your typical 3/4 point harness and they are DOT approved so if you can use your OEM 3 point in that specific event you should have no problem with using these harnesses also since they act like OEM 3 point in case of an accident by releasing the stitches and give you more room to eliminate submarine.. Quote:
http://www.soloracer.com/harnschrothfaq.html on a side note, I wouldn't run any other harnesses such as 5 or 6 point versions without the rest of the required items such as proper roll bar( not a cheap harness bar), proper race seats and a HANS device since your body act like a stress member in case of a rollover ..so I say either 3 point harness that has the DOT cert. like these ASM harnesses or 5/6 point with all the required stuff otherwise you're in danger..

I'm not sure of the distance between the headrest posts on the BRZ/FRS, but this is the only part of the manual that explains shoulder belt routing on the seat.

Alright, as long as your local sanctioning body allows it. I just don't want to see a fellow racer end up in a tragic situation like this:

in an ideal world I would never drive without proper seats, full roll cage with flame suits, fire suppression system, HANS device, 6 point harnesses..maybe it would be a little overkill for an HPDE but I don't care safety first

I'll still probably get one for AutoCross. The only thing I can see on the ASM belts is that there's an extra piece of fabric on the shoulder belt ... how does that keep the lower half of your body from moving?!

There are a number of organizations however who won't let you use it for HPDE/PDX including the large ones like NASA/SCCA and I believe PCA. Heck the PCA even bans people from using them in autocross sometimes... They only allow 4-point (the Rallye 3 is still considered a 4-point) harnesses if they are specifically made for the car and have a label stating such. They don't really care about the Schroth ASM technology or believe in it. They require you to have a 5-point harness and then using a 5-point isn't really that smart without a roll bar. Even though they let you run the car with a 5-point and no harness bar... Last edited by xwd; 07-07-2014 at 11:48 AM. |
