You have to anyways. On here at least.

And you could always pick a state a couple higher.. avoid the Floridians on a daily basis but not deal with fake cocaine.

Not sure moving a bit further north would improve things over Florida.

But that would be moving way north of where I live now.

This is getting confusing.

Now that I have new pads, I will take a look and see how much pad is exposed with 100% pad, and if any of it is visible from the outside, without removing the wheels.
Using your analogy, your comprehension of how brakes work must be at preschool level.

I'm not even going to bother checking the rear pads.

After I replaced the pads, I looked into those slots. You could not see any pad material, just the rotors.
There is literally no way to see the pads from those peep holes. Whoever designed that should be fired.
The only way to check pads is to remove the open caliper.

I've steered clear of this dumpster fire a while, but seeing as I was bored waiting for a load in the washer to finish while sipping coffee, I wad giving this thread a once over.

No you can't see the pads, yes on most cars you can, this isn't special or worth whining about. This is basically the same caliper Subaru had been using on almost all of their cars for the last... 10+ years at least. There is just more metal on the caliper bracket than on a Corolla for example, it hides the pad, how terrible that the brake hardware would be beefier.

But back to my reason for finally posting:

A pad slap on a rusty 50k rotor? That's amateur crap. If you're not going to replace the rotors, at least have them resurfaced. You strutted in here like a big man throwing the ricer insult around but you can't even do a basic brake job right. Laughable.

But...he told us he has more tools than us, to go along with all that experience working on far superior, high-end German cars. And a brand new set of those useless 'mechanic's' gloves that they sell at AutoZone for everyone who wants to pretend they're on a pit crew...

Was going to comment on the gloves and then figured maybe I was the only one that didn't use them these days so better keep my mouth shut.

I use nitrile latex gloves for anything car related. I have 5 boxes laying around from work. Same for detailing projects.

Those thicker gloves are handy if you are turning wrenches in the cold. They lack dexterity which I'm not a big fan of.

I remember being 17 buying a pair of those and then immediately ruining them because oil and fabric don't mix. Lesson learned..
