Yeah I have heard that too. They still don't seem to be that popular as a track car. I maybe see a couple a year since they have come out.

They seem popular in Cali..

I know several that have owned and tracked them. Most have moved on for various reasons though. I hated tracking a buddies because I had to run the heater on full blast to prevent overheating haha

I was reading a review where they were calling a BMW 4 door 8 series one of the best sports cars of 2020.....WTF......if I was making up a name for it it would be a "GT Sports sedan that neds to be flipped before it is oit of warranty"

But that is just me...

Well, language is just words that are accepted in practice, which is why misusing words because of weak definitions is problematic. I like the definition the engineers used. It makes more sense. The GT86 is a grand touring 4-seater. The door count shouldn’t really matter. The RX8 had four doors and is similar in size to the 86, so is it a sedan?

With that said, the RC and LC are two door sports sedan coupes. BMW has a 3-series grand coupe, but still has four doors; it just has a slant roofline, so that makes it a coupe apparently.

Door count doesn't matter. Interior volume is the divding line according to the "experts".

What it CAN"T be is a sedan and a coupe at the same time!

Coupe vs. sedan

In general, people tend to have simplistic definitions of coupes and sedans. Most people will say that coupes are cars with two doors and sedans are cars with four doors, but that isn’t the full truth. The actual difference has to do with size. A coupe is defined as a car with less than 33 cubic feet of interior space, according to the Society of Automotive Engineers. Any car with 33 or more cubic feet of interior volume is considered to be a sedan, regardless of the door count. Nonetheless, the terms coupe and sedan are still used loosely. Sporty, more compact cars are generally called coupes without taking their actual interior dimensions into account. Sedans, on the other hand, are almost always defined as any car with two rows of seating. These definitions seem to always be fluid, but for all intents and purposes, all you need to know is that coupes are generally two-doored, compact cars while sedans are four-doored cars with at least 33 cubic feet of interior volume.

A sedan is at least 33 cubic feet? and a coupe is less? what?
Why is that criteria so low..... thats just 2x trunk size of a large car.

That means every car is a sedan and theres no coupes because every car has more than 33cubic feet of space lol. A SMart fourtwo has 45 cubic feet of interior space.....

Although not clear they are talking passenger compartment not full interior space. Unless of course you haul passengers around in your trunk...

Every car except sports cars aka coupes.

Actually, it is probably a classic measurement from a time when sports cars aka coupes were smaller like a Cobra or Miata in size. A Cayman has 48 cubic feet interior space, but it also is about the size of the 86 and wide compared to cars in the past. I wonder what a Lotus is or the cramped space in the Ford GT.

They probably need to mildly revise that definition based on the size of similar yet current cars like the Lotus, Miata, etc., but I am comfortable with something that defines a coupe based on a small compartment.

I was referring to how they call themselves like the BMW 3-Series sedan grand coupe examples, so maybe that wasn’t clear on my behalf; I wasn’t calling them a coupe, which is why I linked the definition.

Regardless, I don’t know how relinking the definition I already posted would make sense. Maybe you just missed that.

Can confirm that you can fit one 5' 7" person in trunk, seats up.
