Smile ZF8HP50 Swap Possible?

Hi all.

I've done some research into the A960E Transmission and have found them to be unreliable with boosted applications past 300hp+. So I plan to push ~400hp out of my 86 and have looked into replacing the transmission. So far, haven't really found any auto swaps people have done, but my friend owns a stage 2 tuned M140i pushing 450hp+ (soon to be 500). My question is whether the ZF 8HP50 from that or the 51 from the A90 Supra would fit and how much time and money would be spent making at work.

I will be getting AVO stage 2 turbo kit a few weeks to boost to 300hp, but my I will want to push for 400.

Anyone who has done a transmission swap or know of someone who has wanna try to shed some light on this seemingly grey area would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to push to 400 I would get the stage 3 kit. That way you are not paying twice for an intercooler and exhaust outlet.

This makes me wonder whether anyone out there has ever done an engine swap and used an automatic transmission (since almost all swaps go with a manual transmission) that was never paired with the engine in the first place?

I honestly think you'd have higher success/less problematic if you used the 8 speed AT from the Lexus F cars since i believe the current 6 speed AT is somewhat related to it (and both made by Aisin)

I've been looking into the AA80E on RC F. Seems like it would be a better choice in terms of fitment. But I'm struggling to find any information on anyone who has done the swap, or even how difficult it would be. Lots of speculation going round at the initial launch saying it would have a variation of the AA80E with 2 fewer gears, but it's all theory stuff.

That will come at a later date, not too worried about it all right now. It's getting the money together for now... :s
