Thanks! I will have to see if Toyota Canada has something similar. Don't recall ever seeing it but then I never actually went looking.

Man I haven't heard anything from Subaru yet. They received all of the information exactly 1 week ago.

Anybody know how long this typically takes?

It takes 60 days to process your information, and then up to 3 months for review. Once the review process is completed, the decision moves to the board for approval. The board meets quarterly, so it could add up to 3 more months based on the timing. Once they make a decision, it takes 7-10 days to receive a response.

I'd expect to hear back sometime in the fall.

"Subaru dictates a 6,000 mile oil change interval for the engine, but AMSOIL claims 25,000 miles, or 15,000 under “severe use.” Since I fall well within the severe use category, and didn’t want to push my luck, I’m doing 10,000 mile intervals, which is still significantly higher than what Subaru suggests. I’m also sending samples at each oil change to Blackstone Labs for analysis. Before we get to those results, though, let’s consider the past 10,000 miles"
I'm 99% sure the 2013 owner's manual says 7.5 mos or 7,500 miles. (Sorry, I'm not willing to walk out it the rain to my car to check.)

Correct. Mine is a 2015. They revised it to 6,000 miles at some point between yours and mine.

I'm awful at keeping receipts, do you guys think Subaru would deny my warranty if I showed them pictures I took of my receipts?

Keeping lose documents in my house is a downfall of mine, but my computer's files are organized super hard.

Pictures are fine as long as it is clear what they are for. Sate stamped pictures of the receipts taken beside the current mileage on the odometer would remove most arguments.

Dealership just called me back. New short block covered under warranty! I cannot believe they're going to cover it given the crummy maintenance records I have.

I can't put into words the relief I'm feeling right now given how upsidedown I am on the car. It ended up taking about 5 business days for Subaru to approve the work and they expect to have the car running early next week.

Once the job is done, see if they will tell you why the engine failed at 53K miles.

I'll be sure to ask the service manager what their thoughts are once it's fixed. Based on the sound and way it was acting, I'm pretty sure it was a spun rod bearing. I had no CEL, just a click/rattle that followed the rpm band that started while I driving on the interstate and got louder the longer I drove it.

I do think it's interesting they replaced it with my vague proof of maintenance. I've only found one other example of one online with more than 50k miles on it and a major engine failure--everyone else so far seems to be under 25k with more examples happening in that 20-25k range.

Subaru/Toytao has to have acknowledged some kind of defect internally.
