From the first charts in this thread it looks pretty stable at 200F. I'd like to see what it is doing at 240F or a little higher. That is where I notice more weird high RPM pressure fluctuations on the FA20.

Not that I've seen, but we've not been able to produce high temps on the dyno. Maybe if we get an opening in this summer heat/humidity we can give it another shot.

If there are fluctuations, it's likely due to AVCS. That's normal with the EJs and can be seen on the FA20 WRX as well. The pumps are positive displacement. They aren't going to cavitate, and the bypass flows best (least turbulence) when oil/engine temps are highest.

Would be interesting to see the ECU's AVCS tables. There's likely a temp table (coolant or oil) that changes values once a certain temp is exceeded.

Mine starts at about the same spot every time, 5800rpm, and I have had multiple drastically different AVCS timing tables in my car. I haven't 100% ruled it as the issue but I have no other explanation.

Do you have datalogs or a RPM/pressure plot? Stock block or built? Clearances? Oiling system modifications?

Whoa! Are you implying that 20-25 minutes of staging (at idle) then 1-1.5 minutes of auto-X is worse than the same amount of time doing hot laps at VIR?

No logs. I bought an Innovate motor sports pocket logger and ssi-4 just for that purpose to log of the oil pressure gauge and correlate it to rpm but never got it working right then got too busy to mess with it. Stock block, no oiling mods but a cooler, can’t replicate the issue on the street. Clearances won’t be known till I tear this engine down this winter.

1 year later and this is the hottest I can get this thing to. The sticker is not super accurate, but +/-10° is reasonable.

The car has seen all kinds of activities: commuting, long hauls, city traffic jam in peak summer temps, auto-x, drag racing, hill climbs, dyno pulls, etc. Not everything, but a good bit of stuff.

Highest temperature read in-car: ~240°. My previous statements of the OEM sensor reading artificially high by ~20° still seem to be holding true.

Pulled the pan on our under 200 mile engine...

Nothing too exciting here. Typical break in 'glitter' and definitely a presence of some kind of break-in additive.

One big chunk of RTV hanging in the wind. I'm fairly certain this piece has been like this for a while. The seam was razor thin and where it separated was oil soaked, not a clean cut like other places where the RTV and block separated.

Pretty good indication of how soon the RTV starts to get caught in the oil pickup screen. Also, a smaller size red piece. Solution for this coming soon!

Thanks again for the info. Very excited about the "solution" when it's made available.
