You wouldn't be able to bolt up the end links if the struts were on the wrong side. The steering is just turned to the right instead of straight ahead.

In a turn, the sway bar pulls the outside wheel down and pushes the inside wheel up.

It's common to attach the swaybar to a piece of the suspension that isn't involved in steering. Attaching to a control arm/wishbone is pretty common and then you don't have to deal with making sure your link/suspension range of motion is not-binding. Tradeoff is with a worse motion ratio you need a stiffer bar to have the same effect as something with a nearly 1:1 motion ratio attached directly to the strut or knuckle, front swaybars on S2k's are like 30+mm for instance. ![]() |

I know but we're talking about our cars. OP said it seemed odd. Not so odd once the purpose is understood.
I should have used more words. I try to keep it short so I don't lose my audience.

The purpose is clear, the skinning of said porpoise is odd to some traditions.

My WRX, my truck, my kid's Miata and any other car I've worked on, the front sways mounted to the suspension arms. I understand what swaybars do. I just thought it was odd to see them mounted to a moving steering part vs a fixed point.

What is that purpose? Perhaps it isn't.

edit... ok, I see where I failed. My point was that, all other things being equal, the mere act of turning the wheels preloads the sway bar by pulling and pushing. It applies an opposite rolling force to the wheels as a function of steering angle.
