Exactly! Just give us a 3rd gen front bumper and fender grille set. Done!

Then we’ll have 6 front bumper/fender grille designs to pick from!

With all of the rumors and speculation, the one that always felt the least insane is that it wouldn't change much. Considering the target demo (price), Tada's many comments in the past about the "86 brand," overall lackluster sales, and that the Miata is its competitor, I think it makes the most sense not to make any major moves.

Also looking at the current economic climate, it might prove to have been the wisest choice as well since it will be easier for the handful of people that actually want the car in the lineup to justify its continued existence.

Actually, that's a pretty good execution. The cinelli fork crown is spot on.
It's a second gen model I could live with. Been running Schwalbe for year (got mine in 2019).

Went for the stereotypical ricer wang bolted to the back.
Packing a virtual world wall to lean it on.

Well then, if they go with the 2.4L , if you're wanting the automatic.... then the Gen2 gets the bump in performance over Gen1.

Don't know if it's worth buying just for a 2.4 motor, by fall of 2021 my 2016 facelift 86 will be worth probably 17-18 grand. Is it worth buying a 86 with a 2.4 for 36grand sticker price if the price does not change to the current 86 brand new. For the difference thats a built engine and money to spare. I really don't see myself getting one unless this 2.4 is a night and day difference over the current FA20.

It would be similar to buying a facelift if you own a pre-facelift. There would be a bunch of little changes that truly do make a difference in how the car drives. It's worth it to some people, others stick to their 13/14/15. Keep in mind that a lot of these cars are dailies, so some of them will rack up miles, causing most people to want something newer eventually.

Of course, the truth is they don't really care that much what current owners think. At least it doesn't seem like they are listening.

Of course updated interior, looks and gadgets its never ending. I would sell my 86 if Subaru came out with this supposed 2.4 Boxer and it had real character. The horsepower figure is not so important as is the nature of the engine. we all know a 4AGE is not fast its slow and slower then a FA20 but its an engine full of character enjoys revving, sound great, robust.

I hope Subaru have learnt how to make a Naturally Aspirated engine with some personality, otherwise if its just a bigger displacement FA20 I'm going to stick with my little 2.0 litre. They focus a lot on handling in the end with the face lift which is great but they have to realise that suspension tuning, brakes etc is pretty much swapped out for aftermarket parts on this platform. The biggest changes on the face lift was the final gearing that's what owners appreciated.

They need to address the engine properly in this next model everything else is not so important. The fine tuning is basically a hobby for most 86 owners, I might be coming off as an FA20 hater I believe this engine is adequate and a decent attempt by Subaru, but if Subaru is just gonna add more displacement for more power and basically cheat to get more HP so it can sell more BRZ/86's I will not be buying it. Put the R&D in give us a good engine.

A transverse AWD layout doesn't automatically mean easy longitudinal RWD conversion (although it would definitely be easier than a transverse FWD platform, as proven by the Twins).

Well, the TNGA does support both transverse and longitudinal engines, so yes, that would make more sense (despite the longitudinal support being only for the larger versions of it).
Are you claiming that Subarus typically have transverse engine mounting instead of longitudinal?
