Aftermarket Part Websites
Hey everyone,
Just bought my 2020 Toyota 86 in SoCal and was wondering where everyone goes to buy their aftermarket parts? So far I've found ftspeed.com; ft86motorsports.com; and 86speed.com. Just wanna find a good, reliable, and trustworthy website to start putting parts on my new car. Thanks for all the replies in advanced |

I've used ftspeed and 86speed, both have been pretty reliable for me. More recently I purchased from throtl and was really impressed with their customer service - made-to-order parts during a pandemic can create problems. I get most all of my JDM goodies from Nengun Performance, shipping takes a bit but it is after all coming from Japan. I've bought multiple exhaust systems from Emnotek because they are always the cheapest and I know what I'm ordering.
Generally, these kind of shops are great until the ish hits the fan with something, then it becomes a customer service kind of question. It also matters what is important to you, good parts? speedy shipping? Also it kind of depends on the parts you're buying. The shops previously mentioned are great for your off-the-shelf parts but if you're looking for next level stuff, you're probably going to be shopping some where else.

Ive used FT and 86 multiple times and its always a good experience. Had to deal with a return with 86 and they were quick to help me out. I'm also lucky I live 20 minutes from turn14 so depending on stuff I order, I can get it delivered next day haha.

I'm looking for like genuine parts, like if I'm spending this much dollar amount on a part, I wanna make sure it is real. Shipping hopefully its free but if not it's fine. I'm looking for those good made, genuine parts, that won't break on you ya know.

I built my car using FTspeed, Summit Racing, Delicious Tuning, Nengun, Blackhawk Japan and System Motorsports.
FTspeed customer service can be a bit clueless sometimes but they always do the right thing and have been a good supplier. The rest all have exceptional customer service, with System Motorsports and Delicious Tuning being among the best. |

The best way to shop for parts is to figure out what you need, then go shop around to find the best vendor for that. We have a lot of small shops making specialized items for these cars that you won't necessarily find at the bigger parts suppliers.
Definitely the wrong way to shop for parts is to pick a single vendor whose website you peruse for ways to spend money on things you don't actually need. That's how you end up with something stupid like a Blaid antenna. If you're shopping one of the more popular websites and see a shiny object you can't resist, check around to see who might be making alternatives with a better design. Sometimes that impulse buy isn't necessarily wrong, but you could have gotten a better design that better fits your needs from a different manufacturer. And yes, I had a stupid Blaid antenna on my car. |

you could just PM the venders on here and have them invoice you. i've seen in some cases they actually beat their own prices listed on their site.

counterspace garage. they seem to put a lot of time into making sure their stuff is well tested and passes the track test.

Surprised no one has said it yet but japanparts is also a place to source JDM parts. Since they are based in japan, it goes without saying how long shipping is or the expensive shipping prices but they are precise on their ETA's for your order.

Blackhawk Japan is the best. They're located in Japan but their customer service people speak (well, write) fantastic english.
I don't know how they do it but they consistently get parts for cheaper than the typical import sites. Not only that, but if you _don't_ see what you want on their site, you can: A) find it on Yahoo Auctions Japan (very popular there) and send them the link, so they'll get it for you, or B) ask them to see if they can get ahold of something. i.e. for B, I asked two years ago if they could find a set of Endless brake pads I really wanted to try. They weren't listed on the site but I researched the part numbers. They procured them for me direct from Endless. In addition to that, their communication is mostly on point. Occasionally they'll miss a message but generally I've had great experiences when I've needed to ask them questions.

Just got parts in from Japan using Blackhawk and they came quickly.
In the last few years I've spent >$15k on many aftermarket parts and it's been A PAIN. Poor expectations, long delays, listed as in-stock when it's not, wrong type of product delivered, item was made incorrectly and the vendor didn't give a F, etc etc. I've learned there's a few folks I'll never do business with as well. Since many of these companies are little more than a virtual warehouse that don't actually stock anything and everything is drop shipped - I now try to go directly to the manufacturer to see if they sell directly first OR stay with vendors that offer more services to the community beyond simply drop shipping parts.
