All-Electric Audi R8 e-tron - Official

from the press release:
The R8 e-tron achieves an electric range of approximately 280 miles - a considerable improvement over the technology platform’s 133 miles - with an energy density that has been increased from 84 Wh/kg to 154 Wh/kg and some other modifications to the car. The electrically powered high-performance sports car has the Combined Charging System (CCS) on board, which allows charging with direct and alternating current. Using this system, it is possible to fully charge the battery in significantly less than two hours.

The power is now 462PS and the maximum torque 920Nm. The R8 e-tron 2.0 accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to an electronically restricted top speed of 130mph or 155mph. Intelligent energy management and an electromechanical brake system enable high energy recuperation rates. Targeted torque vectoring – needs-based distribution of power transmission between the rear wheels – ensures maximum stability and dynamism.

I like the old one better; smoother exterior design, and they're doing away with the manual for this one (boo!). Not to mention the interior is kinda lackluster IMO. I think the old R8's interior was starting to look a little dated, but I'm not fond of the new direction it's gone in, either. Oh well, I'm not buying one anyway.

Same here, I wonder if the prices on the old generation will go up or down with this new body style.

R8's have held their value extremely well over time; Audis built in Neckarsulm (RS3/4/5/6/7/R8) don't tend to depreciate like their bread-and-butter counterparts. The original base MSRP in '08 was $109k; today the cheapest R8 I could find was an '08 with 58k miles for about $70k.

Jay Leno Takes A Closer Look At The New Audi R8 V10 Plus

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVFkreHsTHI"]2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus - Jay Leno's Garage - YouTube[/ame]

Quote:
Famous car collector and petrol head Jay Leno took out one of the most impressive models ever signed by the four-ring brand, the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus, for a spin.

The exotic is the company's most powerful production car ever and, since it has a lot in common with its Italian cousin, the Lamborghini Huracan, it promises to take things to a whole new level and to continue what its predecessor started, which shared components with the Gallardo.

The same 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, upgraded from the one used on the previous model, is found under its hood and is rated at 540PS (532hp), on the entry-level version, while the range-topping R8 V10 Plus has the same output as the Huracan, at 610PS (601hp), for a 0-100km/h (62mph) acceleration in 3.2 seconds and a 330km/h (205mph) top speed.

Since it shares so many things with the Huracan, it really begs the question if one should go for the Lamborghini or the Audi.

New Audi R8 V10 Plus Marks The Return Of The Everyday Supercar

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCqSuVyCrWM[/ame]

Quote:
The time has finally come for the first reviews of Audi’s new R8 to show up, and as expected, they are positive.

Auto Express drove the German cousin of the Lamborghini Huracan on track and road in V10 Plus guise, which means 602hp from a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine, 3.2 seconds for 0-62mph and a 205mph top speed.

Audi has promised a smaller engine for an entry-level R8, with the latest rumors talking about a turbocharged unit.

Sadly Audi will not offer a manual gearbox this time, with the otherwise excellent seven-speed S-Tronic transmission being the only choice but it will be interesting to see how the new R8 will cope among its turbocharged opponents and of course against its Italian cousin.

Enjoy the video that follow the jump.

2017 Audi R8 Priced In The US, Too Bad Most Of US Can’t Afford It [w/Video]

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOxbO0EI4MA[/ame]

Quote:
Billed as the fastest and most powerful production Audi ever, the all-new generation of the R8 has landed in the USA priced as much as a house.

Offered exclusively in V10 guise for now, there are two models to choose from, the entry-level R8 V10 priced at $162,900 and the R8 V10 Plus from $189,900, with both MSRPs excluding a $1,250 destination charge. First deliveries will take place this spring.

In the base model, you get a 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10 churning out 540PS (533hp) and 398 lb-ft of peak torque paired to a standard seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic and Audi’s all-wheel drive Quattro system, which help it reach 60 mph (96km/h) in 3.5 seconds before topping out 199 mph (320km/h).

Treat yourself to the ‘Plus’ edition, and besides an improved version of the same sonorous V10 that produces 610PS (602hp) and 413 lb-ft of torque that catapults it to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 205 mph (330km/h), again connected to a 7sp S-tronic, you also gain a car that weighs 77 pounds less and comes fitted with numerous special features.

These include standard ceramic brakes, carbon fiber rear diffuser, front lip spoiler, exterior mirror housings and fixed rear wing spoiler, and for the first time ever in the States, racing shell seats.

If you can't afford it, you might as well enjoy it in the video released by Audi below.

WOW do these pictures not do this car any justice whatsoever. Just came back from the Detroit auto show and boy do they look a lot better in person. I agree that these pictures make the car look bland, but wait until you see it in person before saying this car is fugly. For whatever reason certain cars just cannot be captured right on video/photograph. Take for example the new NSX - I guarantee most people who have seen pictures/video before seeing the new NSX in person will be blown away with how damn wide the car is.

All-New Audi R8 Spyder Scooped Without Camo

Quote:
Local car spotters got the chance to photograph a couple of R8 Spyders conducting hot-weather testing in Namibia.

Since last August our spies have snapped a few shots of the Audi's new convertible supercar both on the road and at the Nurburgring, but this marks the first time it has been captured without camouflage.

Unfortunately, the images don't reveal as much as we would have liked, but predictably enough, pretty much all previous renderings got it right - including those depicting the ventilated engine cover.

Performance-wise, the second generation of the R8 Spyder will be identical to the Coupe, so we should see the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 in two states of tune, with 540 PS and with 610 PS for the "base" and Plus respectively.

Neither of the two R8 Spyders caught on camera here seems to be the V10 Plus, since they are missing the fixed rear wing.

Entry-level Audi R8 will reportedly have a biturbo 3.0-liter V6

Quote:
Audi is preparing to launch an entry-level R8 in 2018 and a new report is indicating it will be powered by a biturbo V6 engine.

Citing "reliable sources," Car & Driver is reporting the model will feature a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine that is related to the 3.0-liter TFSI V6 that powers the Audi S4. Nothing is official but the magazine is reporting the engine will produce approximately 450 horsepower.

The engine will be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system. Performance specifications remain unconfirmed but the model will reportedly have a top speed of roughly 190 miles per hour.

While previous reports suggested the entry-level R8 would feature a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine, one insider told the magazine “A five-cylinder engine in the R8 would have created a strange internal competition between the entry-level R8 and the TT RS."

The new engine will be offered alongside the current 5.2-liter V10 that has outputs of 540 hp and 398 pound-feet of torque as well as 610 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. The report goes on to say an even more powerful V10 variant is in the works but sadly there's no word on when it will arrive or how much power it will produce.
