Lexus has trademarked the “LC F” nameplate in Europe, giving the first indication that a high-performance version of the flagship coupe is on the way.

This news is hardly a surprise, as an LC F is a logical extension of the F performance brand —- the real question becomes, what will power this coupe? It has to be bigger than the 5.0L V8 featured in the LC 500, and that should mean a new engine is on the way.

As for projecting a timeline for the new coupe variant, deciphering a release date from a trademark filing is only marginally better than reading tea leaves. My guess — 2019 as a 2020 model.

Currently, the 471-hp Lexus LC500 is the brand’s high-performance flagship. But we’ve learned that Lexus is planning more. Set to make its debut at the Tokyo auto show in October is an ultra-high-performance LC F that will feature a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 punching out a potent 600 horsepower.

According to our source at Lexus, this high-performance powerplant is in essence two 8AR-type 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines joined together at 90 degrees. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 also will find its way into the GS F—making 550 horsepower—but for the LC F it will be turned up to 600 horsepower, with 470 lb-ft of torque. As with the LC500, the F will use the company’s 10-speed automatic transmission.

The LC F’s bespoke body kit will feature hood vents, air ducts for brake cooling, a fixed rear wing, and an aggressive front splitter as well as side and rear air vents. A set of 20-inch wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber will keep the LC F stuck to the road, while six-piston brake calipers will squeeze the rotors to scrub off speed. We’ll learn more about the hardware on this ultimate Lexus this fall.

While the LC500 will start at $92,995, the LC F could nearly double that figure. Sound expensive? Well, it’s a bargain next to the $350,000 Lexus asked for the LFA.

What the heck, 4280lbs?? That's more than an Aston Martin DB9 Volante...

I guess it doesn't really matter though, since it is a beautiful GT car you cruise in, not a track machine. I wish they upgraded the 2GR in the hybrid one a bit, because that engine really starts to sing at 7000rpm ish.

Great video by Dezoris. Well-shot, with lots of in-depth info about the car, and plenty of V8 aural pleasure.

For the money, weak...and no manual. There are only three sport coupes that float my boat, the BRZ/ FRS being one of them.

I don't think anything in this price class has manual anymore.
And yes it may be low on power (no turbo) but damn does it sound good.

I want this to be my old mans car.

Since when was 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque "low on power"?
Everything doesn't need a turbo.


This sort of comment is exactly why I always say that if they offered a 300HP Twin then people would still scream "NOT ENOUGH POWER".
