New Track Tire Setup and AT Cooler version 2.0 (10-31-15)

Apologies for the delayed posts as my laptop decided to quit on me.

During my last trackday, I had the chance to try out my new track tire setup, and how the bar and fin tranny cooler I installed would fare. The new track tire setup consists of an 8.5/235 front and 9.5/265 rear. I currently am running Rotas as I'm saving up for some real TE37s.

Rear end grip really improved as I can power out earlier then with my earlier square setup. I did not feel any understeer with the staggered setup.

The tranny cooler was another story. As soon as I had some WOT runs, after lap 3, my tranny was running really hot. 130C hot. The truth came out this time because we were using the long track configuration and therefore had more WOT time. The small bar and fin cooler got overwhelmed quickly, and with little direct airflow, could not cool the tranny fast enough.

I had another B&M AT cooler lying around and I decided to just place it behind the intercooler. I was hesitant at first with this setup because I didn't want more heat exchangers stuffed out front of the radiator and AC condenser.

The cooler fits, and it is a very tight one to be exact. Driving on the street, it cools a lot more than the previous setup as seen from my AT oil temp guage. I have to try it out on track again to see if there is a difference. I will report my findings after my next trackday.

Whoa! Those Touge battles look like a ton of fun... Wish they had those kind of events around here...

Are these events at CIS, etc open to the public? Wondering in case I come back to the Phils with my fam next year... Would be cool to spectate. Also, would you happen to know if theres any such thing as "rent-a-racecar" kind of service there?

They are open to the public! I'm not sure about the rent a race car though, but I'm sure if you source one out it can be done.

2016 Tokyo Auto Salon

I was fortunate enough to visit my wife's relatives in Japan this year and opted to time it during the Tokyo Auto Salon. This has always been on my bucket list since high school, and finally being able to go really got me excited.

The show did not disappoint. It took me two days to really finish everything, and I still felt I needed another day to really soak things in more. The show was held in the Makuhari Messe, which consisted of four very large halls and included the parking lot outside. The cars in the show were as expected, flawless. Race queens were also in attendance, and the Japanese auto fans were in full force.

I am only posting pics of the twins as there were a lot of other cars which would take up a lot of space!

I was really impressed with the GRMN 86 and STI BRZ concepts, which would really be great track toys if ever we mortals could get our hands on one.

I would like to thank my wife for making this trip possible and her family for taking us in during the trip!

Craftsqure Side Mirrors Install (4-15-16)

It's been a long time since my last update, but since my trip from Japan, nothing has been done to the car. I've really been busy lately with no time to go to the track. I did however, order some Craftsquare carbon side mirrors during my stay in Japan.

Craftsquare sure does take their time when making side mirrors as I had to wait 3 months to finally get mine.
Some may remember me installing a similarly designed carbon mirror which I had to DIY some mounts for the 86. This time I decided to just buy the originals.

Comparing the copies from the originals, it is apparent that the mount from the Craftsquare mirrors are light years ahead. They feature locking nuts with allen screws to really hold you side mirror settings. The copies would move when you hit a pothole, as the mounts do not have locks on them.

Install was pretty easy since I already did this the last time. If this is your first time expect to do it in about 2 hours.

On another note, my car suddenly developed an appetite for V-belts.

I found that my supercharger belt sheared off again when it jumped a groove on some pullies. After changing the belt, it happened again the next day. Taking the supercharger off, I discovered that both idler pullies were shot. I replaced the pullies and the belt eating has stopped.

I also was lucky enough to get some Speedhunters airfreshners during the tokyo auto salon.

This is the way I did mine. I did what you did at first but I wasnt happy about it riding on the plastic. So I made holes on the crash beam and fed my oil lines through it. It was quite the challenge. But its rock solid.

Here is the photo.

Great solution! What did you use to put holes on the crash beam?

Hole saw. You might need 1"1/16 box wrench for the oil fitting where adjustable wrench might not fit... If I would it again I would make the top ones larger or as largest as possible from the get go without taking too much off. I ended up using a grinder to make the top bigger because it wasn't clearing.. Notice the little wholes on the front of the bar? I dint want to use self tapping screws, neither on the inter-cooler nor on the oil cooler. That is the only way to reach the nuts and bolts to secure it to the bar... Now they are both rock solid .
