Why are you thinking of getting out of the frs?

well the frs is fun and all, but i live in an area that is dull to drive, all straight, not many curbs. the fact that i think it needs more power, and i really dont want to go aftermarket. I also have an FJ cruiser that is 4x4, but i use it sometimes in bad weather, and or to haul stuff. Planning if i do to trade both. the wrx hatchback has the practicality of space and AWD, and the fun factor still there..

its between an 4runner vs a sti. and i really need a fun car, but more practical. The frs is fun, but not practical. It is what it is, just a toy...

the 4 runner is boring, and we already have another SUV, and i need to downsize the fleet....

It sounds like like the WRX checks all the boxes for you. It does very well in the snow (mine has winter tires on it too). Straight-line speed is very fast in this car. I have not pushed it too hard yet, but when I have it really moves. Even just passing people on the freeway is fun

Have they released pricing at the Detroit Auto Show for this car yet?

I am mildly curious...

Different strokes for different folks.

I found the STI & WRX more 'meh' even on straight line roads than the BRZ. But I also live in an area where it rarely, even during the coldest part of winter, gets to where summer tires aren't safe to use, and we don't get snow either.

If I still lived farther north, there'd be a stronger argument for the WRX/STI, really b/c of the AWD.

It really comes down to which vehicle just 'sings' to you. The brz sung to me. To others it will be a WRX instead. And that's a-okay.

I cross shopped a STi with Mazdaspeed3 back in 2010. I ended up with Mazdaspeed3 and had no regret. It was fucking fast with some bolt ons with Cobb AP Protune.

Just wanted to give you a pointer on the hatchback utility.

With the rearseat folded down, I was able to carry a california king size memory foam mattress.

If you like the styling of hatchback, go for it. The hatchback utility can't be matched. Hench my wife drives a 2010 A4 Avant.

Get a STi and do a simple tune, it will wake up the car like CRAZY.

Good luck.

Dude, are you serious?

My BRZ sung to me too when I took it out for a test drive.

Well not literally unless you consider tire chirp to be music (it's lovely in the right instances, but I wouldn't buy the album :-P), but yeah.

It's just this feeling of 'rightness' that this is the car you are looking for, and it fits the budget.

I thought the STI sung to me, but that was a quickly passing fling.

The brz I know truly did because I enjoy driving it just as much now as I did a few months ago & I still love to find excuses to just go for a drive in it.

Same reason why I traded in my so much more faster in the straightline car for a BRZ.

It's so lovely to drive everyday.

is the STI worth the 10K price tag, the only sti hatchback they have near me is 39K, which has an added navigation, and other crap, but i cant make 1000 usd, is that possible dealer market adjustment?

I'm sure you can get couple thousands down.

Try a WRX too. It's MUCH cheaper to buy and couple bolt ons and tune is all you need to juice it up.

Yes, it's much faster even against a juiced up WRX.

However, you must be willing to eat the massive mpg drop that comes with it. That is, that was the case with the EJ motor. Not sure if the new sti will have an FA in it. If it does, then that may alleviate some of the massive gas inefficiency inherent in the outgoing sti generations.

IMO, the WRX is the more balanced (between economical DD & performance) model, whereas the STI is far more performance oriented.

The current model WRX and STI dyno exactly the same. You can check out Cobb's database on their website. The STI is slightly faster on the track, but for daily driving the WRX is faster due to the gear ratio. Car and Driver had the WRX faster to 60 and the quarter mile.

Also looks like the '15 STI still uses the EJ25, sadly.

I had a 2011 hatchback, which is the same car. It was great and very fast with a stage 2 tune. That said, after getting the BRZ I ended up selling the WRX because the BRZ was that much better to drive.
