There are some folks ( paging @Juzzotec ) who would like to know how you made this work!

Did you use something like the following on your USB drive:

\subdirectory\my_photo1.jpg

Anything special about the photo like limiting the file size or the dimensions of the image?

Was the photo a .jpg file or something else?

Where did you go in the Pioneer setup to do this?

Thanks!

@LimitedSlip How does it look once you set a custom background... pixelated?

It was quite simple actually....formatted a USB stick using Fat32. Originally I added the files and it wouldn't work until I created a folder named "Photos", once i did that it actually read all my photo's and no it doesn't look pixelated. It did stretch out a couple of them....its close to 800x400 pixels. I'm playing to find the perfect size but I have several already done that look great but I want to try and make it look perfect.

As for where....thats pretty simple too. Several uTube videos describe how on AVH models. Select the USB from the media type...it will file your photos. The first time I plugged it in it took a minute, I think it creates its own directory almost...one utube video said manually create one but I think it worked automatically. Then there is a button that looks like download (bottom left), click that and it takes a minute to save it and you chose which screen you want it saved on. You can only save one picture on the radio. Once I figured it out the process took less than 2 mins. File format I used was jpeg and as for file size I had various sizes and all worked. Here is one of the video's from uTube.

I'd post a picture of it in my dash but chose a "naughty" picture and wouldn't want to offend anyone It's almost as perfect as on my iPad in terms of resolution (to what my eyes can see) I'm sure pixel count varies in the actual display.

@Juzzotec
Sorry I just went back and read over the whole thread and saw some of your previous issues. I didn't see any real pixelation on the majority of my files.

Here are some sample pictures I just went and took.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/n8N3VvWv2XJtitmE8
640x480 72dpi 77KB

https://photos.app.goo.gl/oBJZ1Ey8gFcSxKLKA
1440x900 96dpi 363KB

https://photos.app.goo.gl/dfzfckumy4mjfGeX7
1980x1080 96dpi 285KB

The pictures are off a bit as any pictures you take with a camera of a LCD monitor and some small horizontal lines but you really don't see that when viewing normally. Have you watched a movie using a USB? Mine plays in High Def in a widescreen format that's as good as watching it on my computer monitor with 0 distortion.....

I did notice some pictures I thought would be perfect size in width didn't stretch as I thought and the display added some blank height with a black strip top and bottom approx 3/4 of an inch. I'm assuming that the pixel height is the main factor when it resizes the aspect....however the three pictures I posted are almost identical to their original aspect ratios.

update...playing with some different ratios and sizes, a ratio of 4:3 seems best so far without compression. Ideal dimensions 640px x 480px. My first picture is exact to the original.

I should note this centers the image and does leave a gap on each side....if you are trying to do full screen I havent quite perfected the size....ratio of 5:3 seems close for full screen

The HU specs indicate the display has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a screen resolution of 800 x 480 (which would appear to be a 15:9 aspect ratio). If we take a ratio of 5:3 and multiply by 3 (so as to have a common denominator of 9) the result is 15:9. So, a .jpg of 5:3 really should fit pretty well on the display.

FM frequencies probably won’t play very nice. Other than that it should be fine, as long as you install it upside down.

I don't listen to the radio much, but I get all of the larger stations within my area on my AVH-ZL5150.

One tip if you get the head unit, make sure the antenna is powered when you wire everything together. I made that mistake initially and the reception was very poor as a result.

Choose the 13-15 harness.

I just installed the AVH-ZL5150 using the compete AutoHarnessHouse kit and my FM reception is horrible. I don't think I missed any connections, how can I check the antenna is powered?
