13 Suspension Update
I drive +15k miles a year on my stock everything 2013 FRS since buying it used with 34k on the odometer. Now approaching my 60k service interval and am wondering if a suspension update is in order.
My current commute is from Pasadena to LAX via the 210,134,110,10, 405. I love how the car handles and can feel every seam in the pavement... Downside is THERE ARE A LOT OF SEAMS. My stock springs and struts are good, but at stock height I still scrape around LA. I hope taller/meaty tires (245/45/r17 MPSS on 17x9 +35) can give me the extra hair of ground clearance I'm looking for. If not, I hope to move towards a rally build with lift springs. (225/50/r17 MPSS on stock rims) When updating your suspension are coilovers/shocks and springs enough or is it time to replace ALL the bushings? AM I overthinking all of this? Maybe. From my research I am considering these options, which is the compliant daily setup? 13 Stock springs + Bilstein B6 Chuhatsu lift springs + Bilstein B6 Full MY 20 GT86 stock suspension (Your superior suggestion here, clearly I have no clue) Am I wasting my money and should save up for a Cayman or GR86? LOL |

Honestly it's going to be an uphill battle.
If you really want to add more ride confort, tires wont do jack. You'll need adjustable coilovers. With a good soft setting. Rally settings would be ideal. But my honest opinion, time to trade up. Go Cayman or anything sport luxury.

@Racecomp Engineering is coming out with a rally-x suspension setup, that might be your best bet. For improving comfort using tires, I'd go down to a 16" wheel so that you can use taller tires without increasing your overall diameter noticeably.

Monotube Bilstein may be a little stiff for your commute, may not soak up the seams like you want, some people downright dislike them on other platforms. I'd be looking at Koni Yellows and use them set to soft.

I would definitely replace bushes, ball joints etc at the same time.
Even if its with OEM (which is absolutely fine for your usage), its not that hard or expensive to get done, and will give you a nice "reset". |
