Considering selling my s2000 for a turbo brz/frs
Hey guys, fist time posting on here.
I currently own a clean/stock ap1 s2000 with 150,000km's. When I bought my car 5 years ago, the brz/frs had just came out and was out of my price range but it's basically exactly what I want in a car, hardtop, 2 door, 2700lbs, rear wheel drive, manual, handling is fantastic etc. Only issue was it felt slow as shit to drive. Well recently prices of the s2000 have gone up, and frs/brz prices continue to go down. I'm at the point where I'm not enjoying driving the s2000 anymore. There's no trunk space, no rear seats, I'm 6'2 and don't fit in the thing, the interior rattles like crazy and there's alot of windnoise from the softtop (and tbh I've never been a fan of convertibles to begin with). I've been considering selling my s2000 and getting an frs and a crawford turbo (+100) kit for it. Is this a stupid idea or not? Obviously the s2000 guys are against it, my girlfriend likes the idea, I like the idea but I feel like it's a stupid financial decision. just want to know what you guys think. TLDR: want to sell my s2000 for an frs/brz and a turbo, tell me if this is a stupid idea or not. |

I had an S2000 before my FR-S. The S2000 is a more track/performance car for sure. But, it's small, not practical, has no rear seat, has close to zero trunk room, and is hot and noisy. I loved it as a third car.
My FR-S is now 7 years old. (owned the s2000 for 2 years) The FR-S has ALL the things that I wanted out of the s2000. (except exhaust note) Anyway, I know you are looking at a turbo twin. I have never driven one and my car is stock drive train. I have upgraded most pieces of my suspension though. My ap1 had no TCS or VSC. My wife crashed it. Those features are enough for her to be able to drive the FR-S safely. Anyway, they are pretty different when it comes down to it, IMO. I feel the S2000 is WAY harder to drive close to it's limit. I feel the FR-S is easy to drive near it's limit. Long story short, the FR-S is more relaxing to drive, has more room, and if absolutely needed, has a rear seat.

Don't get a crawford kit, overpriced and there are much better options out there.
Stock vs stock there isn't a huge difference in straight line performance, so it just depends how much more oomph you want out of it. The edelbrock supercharger is also a great option for a meaty powerband.

meh..
if speed AND finances are a concern I think it is a dumb idea...there are better used vehicles out there with much more power + good handling without breaking the bank...but tbh not sure how someone driving a s2k can call a stock fa20 "slow as shit" lol..s2ks lack torque too and are only slightly faster that is like comparing who is taller between 2 midgets.. |

Also I had a bugeye wrx and I loved the turbo spool on that thing. superchargers are better in every way and I get that, but I just love the drama that a turbo adds. It just makes everything so much fun to drive. |

The more you talk about straight line times (that you googled caranddriver), the faster this community is going to come at you with pitchforks.

There was a Varis 86 down the street from my place and i enjoyed looking at it every day when I drove to/from home. It’s been missing for a few weeks now and in its place is an S2000. I’m sad that I don’t see that gorgeous 86 anymore but if something that was upgraded seemingly with no expense spared just to be replaced by an S2K means the latter is better to drive. See about updating things in your suspension. How are your top hats, bushings, etc etc? Older cars have torn/cracked bushings which introduces all kinds of NVH. Just my 2 cents. Plus in 10 years when the S2K will be going for 100K (okay maybe not but the twins will for sure not go above 20 ever) you’ll be beating yourself up.

With a header, tune and street tires my FRS ran a 14.2 quarter mile. And it isn't set up for drag in the slightest. With some tweaks it could be faster.
My good friend has an AP1. We track (road course) together 20+ days a year. We have met down a straight a few times and we are extremely close on acceleration. I find it funny that people think the s2k is god and the frs is slow. With nothing but a header and tune we are much closer than you think. +1 for the Edlebrock supercharger over the crawford kit. +1 for choose another car. There are better street car options for the price. I would never have bought an FRS for the street. Its a hell of a track car tho! Since you mentioned it. The Fiesta ST is capable of 300hp. Now that is a fun/practical street car IMO!

I've been in an Innovate/Sprintex supercharged 2013 BRZ (210). Completely stock aside this and has an e-tune through OpenFlash. The car feels amazing. Mine is turbo and I love it, but the supercharger is such a well rounded, worry free add on, you'd be silly to dismiss it, especially for the price. Even 240whp from the Innovate kit in this car transforms it into a much better DD if you want more speed.
