OOPS CORRECTION!

Mine came with AA130, first oil change we stocked SU003-08412 with AA130 printed, made it japan.

Just took a peak and now our SU003-08412 now have AA170 printed on them. Also have one on my car from the second oil change.

So sounds like a supply chain thing. If dealers ordered filters for stock in preparation of the launch around nov/dec 21 they got AA130s. Ours our dated feb/22 and have AA170 in the box... Could be a canada thing too.

Failure doesn't have to happen immediately. It can be slight enough to start rattling, eventually failing from fatigue.

Yes - we really need to see a printout and/or some sort of additional confirmation of the "black box" info. What the owner/poster says and what the dealer says are currently inconsistent.

Indeed, if the two datapoints we have from the dealer (8300 RPM, 129 miles per hour - forget about the "5th gear" stuff as it is not really relevant given that there is no sensor for the gear itself) can be confirmed by the black box, pretty much everything that has been discussed in this thread is irrelevant - warranty justifiably voided. Period.

Thanks very much for everyone's input. Much appreciated!

Engine got pulled today by a fellow PCA club member and trusted engine builder. Oil pickup tube is clean. Connecting rod cap broke. Big chunk of crankshaft missing. He does not think its a oil starvation issue at the moment. So there it is.

I feel better knowing that its likely me and not Toyota being petty on the warranty.

Wow! They must've beefed up the piston. That's a real design challenge.

cherry picking the most tame footage to get the most sympathizers. imo means he was banging off the rev limiter the rest of the time..

It shows he didn’t hit 129mph at 8300 rpm in fifth at the time the dealership claims he did. That’s something.

i can post 10 minutes of video doorbell footage to prove that tina fey didn't swing by for a booty call last night.

that doesn't mean she didn't.

At no point in time does Dream or the dealer documentation make any reference to a precise time when the supposed over rev occurred. He does say that the car never went over 111 but the video is to short to prove that.

I don't think that he was trying to deceive. More just grasping at straws that it was the know issue. He really has been more than reasonable throughout the ordeal. I was actually rooting for him but unfortunately all the evidence points elsewhere. The initial damage could have occurred after that clip or even a track day weeks ago and it just to that long to completely let go.

I have no experience with the previous gen. Are you saying that in the last gen the pistons were the weak point?

Hate that OP lost his engine and isn't getting warranty work. Sucks. I am interested in people pushing these to the limits to find the weak points. Ready for tuning to be available and for people to start boosting. Curious if the FA24 will be generally stronger or weaker than the FA20.
