Cars.com has a new review up that actually speaks to the handling changes:

https://www.cars.com/articles/2017-t...1420691771365/
However, you do notice an immediate difference in the suspension tuning. The old FR-S was notoriously squirrely; the back end was too stiff, which made it chattery on the road and difficult to feel the limits of the rear tires' grip. It would break away without much warning, which could be dangerous.

So, Toyota has revised the 86's suspension, including spring-rate changes, revised shock tuning and a thicker rear stabilizer bar. The updates have settled down the back end and the 86 drives more like the Subaru BRZ now, which is a good thing in my opinion.

When the 86 is pushed, there is better feedback from the rear, and the smidge of body roll has softened the 86's harsher characteristics. In corners, you can feel the car squatting down on the outside rear tire and slip is gradual instead of sudden. More important, you can feel it coming. The skinny tires may still squeal at the very sight of a corner, but the suspension changes really enhance the driving experience. It handled the long, high-speed sweeping turns on our drive route better than the FR-S ever could, and the softer suspension won't jar your fillings out on poor roads.

"while the styling changes provide enough of a signal that this now a Toyota and not a Scion" Really Mr. Wong? Do you not think that it would not have received the same changes if Scion was still around? Never notice that the Toyota's around the rest of the world looked the same as the FRS?

"The old FR-S was notoriously squirrely; the back end was too stiff, which made it chattery on the road and difficult to feel the limits of the rear tires' grip." Bullshit.

Most of the review consists of quips that could have come straight off of here. I could find no driver review from Mr. Wong on the old version and am not convinced he ever even drove one.

could you imagine a review done without driving the car, based on information on this forum alone.

it would be nothing but complaining and pics of chicks, and Master race posters.

actually it would be kind of interesting...

And would end up talking about my lunch!

Now inversely, think of what this forum would be like if only technical items and official announcements were discussed. No banter, no joking, no informal interaction, no meaningless debate, just pure tech talk.

I don't think I've ever driven something that so clearly telegraphed its intentions as the FR-S. These people describe the FR-S like an MR-2 or old 911 - like it's just waiting to go into snap oversteer. Maybe they need to change their shoes as I've never had a problem controlling the rear end on the stock tires or stickier.

It's like it crashed into a Pep Boys (though I freely admit I still want the rear window louvers - I just wish the price would come down to a more reasonable amount).

Or somebody would make a half decent knock off for about 30% of the cost. I would have them on in a second if they didn't cost half the price of the car.

What the hell is the "Millenium Protection Package"? Unless it means a bumper to bumper warranty through 2099, they can keep it. Freakin' scammers.

Yeah it's a stupid protection that they supposedly spray on the interior and exterior and any defects that occur will be covered. Got ripped off by it once when I bought my Altima back in 2008. Tried to do a claim on it for some yellow staining on the white pearl paint. The service manager came out with his book of things not covered and quoted some of the terms once he saw the staining. When I got my FRS (Same owners different dealership) I told them to take that off since the coverage is absolute bs. I saw on the full write up of the car during the paperwork they pay 125 dollars for the application to the vehicle and sell it for stupid amounts.

Did they really mount that spoiler right on top of the stock brz spoiler? I wonder how functional it is.

On the black lip under the passenger headlight. There is a vertical line showing where the piece is removable.

Also there is a small piece of the bumper above the lip that also looks removable hard to tell on the red but on the blue it's right above the black lip with the vertical line.
