BRZ Rear Diffuser
When building a BRZ for fun on the Subaru site there is a rear diffuser available for $750. It doesn't look like much, but besides getting some extra downforce on a track day (if it even provides any) is this worth considering for a daily driver? My understanding is that it wouldn't provide any extra benefit since it only assist with downforce at speed...

It should help clean up the airflow going out the rear of the car. Unfortunately the rest of the underbody looks pretty turbulent. I think the JDM cars get some sort of smooth underbody panels but because of the US-market exhaust they eliminated it... How stupid!
I'm pretty much getting one for looks; I won't lie. It makes the arse-end look a lot more "finished" ![]()

I'm not convinced it's useful in any way (not real diffusers in general, this specific piece), so no.

PS: it looks idiotic with the US spec. exhaust tips.

That's a walk around with about 3 seconds of rear diffuser action. We need to see the underbody, not the ass.

I ordered one for my SWP, but mainly just for that little bit of finished look to it. I agree it looks bad with the standard US exhaust tips, but I am already on planning on getting the HKS Legamax Premium exhaust with the much larger tips. Hopefully it helps to just make a better looking rear end and sets it apart from some of the other SWP out there. Although, I am also getting dark tints and black wheels, so that should help too.

It's likely this accessory won't provide any real value to a street car from a performance standpoint.
Furthermore I personally don't think it lends itself to making the car look better. Maybe it looks better in person, but based on the video and the pictures I frankly think it looks exactly like what it is, a piece of hastily tacked on trim. If you like it more power to you. As for me, no thanks. |
