Both ways will work but i had a issue with mine lifting it off the lip after unbolted. So i just took the whole bracket down , it was only 2 easy to get to bolts. Probably different clearing issues with different exhausts used.

Great write up as always. The How-To will be spotless as well I bet. Thanks!

Okay here's the story:
+Vortech has offered free upgrades for existing 86 Supercharged customers. +I opted to return my car back to NA rather than rent a car. That was a great learning experience. +I flashed a stock tune which I recieved from FA20Club.com when I was NA tuned by them. Today I got a check engine light for no cat. I'm not worried. If you aren't tuned this will happen. I have cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet. If it comes back before I put the supercharger back on I'll let everyone know.

Some info, some old, some new.
The Borla header weighs 11lbs and some change on the Phastek scale ![]() 20130323-BorlaUELHeaderInfo-001 by VictorN07, on Flickr The OEM header/exhaust manifold with its full clad is almost 21.5 lbs. ![]() 20130323-BorlaUELHeaderInfo-002 by VictorN07, on Flickr Here are the two headers side by side. The large bulge in the lower left of the OEM Exhaust manifold is the stock catalytic converter. I will take apart all the heat shielding and shoot some pics inside the cat to show everyone how bloody restrictive it is ![]() 20130323-BorlaUELHeaderInfo-003 by VictorN07, on Flickr Some goodies. Subaru Exhaust Manifold gaskets (top left), graphite gasket I had when I did my Perrin headerback (top right), Subaru exhaust crush gasket (bottom). The exhaust manifold gasket had two part numbers, I believe the top one is the new number. It is really a beefy part. about 2 mm thick. ![]() 20130323-BorlaUELHeaderInfo-004 by VictorN07, on Flickr

nice, did you need the gaskets? or just playing it safe. When i took mine off, only the crunch gasket was kinda bad but still pretty good. Probably better to just swap them while its easy. They're like 15 a piece right?

You could probably get an O2 sensor "chip" (for lack of a better word). There were a few people running them on the GD chassis WRXs to fool the ECU into thinking their aftermarket catless uppipe (because the stock uppipe had a cat and had a tendency to get sucked into the turbo/engine) had a catalytic converter and was working within spec.

@F1point4 , any ETA on the DIY? I'm installing mine this weekend and would love to review your DIY before hand. I read over the included instructions from Borla but I know your pictures will be 100x better.

I have the pictures in Lightroom right now. I want to clean them up and put the instructions on them tonight, and hopefully upload them tonight or tomorrow. Late night work conference calls with Thailand keep me from spending more time on this and other stuff

That one guy in the Borla hat looks like he's going bald.
Other than that, another good post! Thanks for your contribution. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2 |
