Only marginally on topic: does anyone know a good place in Sydney to get aftermarket speakers (good ones) fitted? Quality work and knowledgeable staff is more important than low prices.
I've used Focal monitors in the studio and love their neutral, balanced sound. No idea if their car audio products have that, but if they do, then a Focal dealer would be ideal. Cheers, |

I am running 6" JL Audio component speakers and a Focal amp. It sounds like the "middle" of the sound is missing - vocals are drowned out by instrumentals. I guess this would make sense since they took the stock midrange out. I have been recommended a 3" midrange from the Focal K2 range. Do you think this would solve the issue?

I spent about $200 on parts/cables and did it myself. Had an amp box and sub already. It does make a difference, the stock speakers can handle more power and they sound ok for a minor budget. But if your going in to the trouble of paying someone to amp your stereo then it will be worth getting speaker upgrades.( you do it once and it's done ) Then if you want a sub, then that is something else to consider. Then insulation/sound deadening. $$$ (my next project ) It's all about your budget and what YOU are going to be happy with. |

That guy is awesome. Forgot his name. But He knows his shit. Doesnt muck around and is very honest. He dedication and drive actually encouraged me to do it all myself.
I love his website. Fuddbutter knows him very well. They used to judge system comps together. |

and was the JL set originally a 3 way set? i would try playing with the EQ on the headunit first if it has one, try and bump up the frequency's around 300-800hz If you are already running JL speakers, i would stick with them rather than going the Focal, http://www.jlaudio.com/c5-400cm-car-...ossovers-99127 The tonality of the Focals may not go well with the JL's, Also, if the JL set you have is a 2 way system, you may need to get the 3 way passive crossover to drive them. Unless you are wanting to run a full active 3 way front stage which even i am not game to try haha.

+1 for Marty. I had an email conversation with him over a couple of days about options for my BRZ. He was very helpful and good natured. I'd take my car there if it wasn't a 1600km round trip. The web site is also a great resource. If only there was somewhere that good where I live.

I have had a mess around with the equalizer... not much luck ![]() The set I have is just a 2 way set. I have spoken to JL Audio, and they don't have a midrange speaker that they sell seperately that will fit. I would have to replace the whole system which I am not too keen on. The man at Tonkins has suggested the Focal midrange speaker with a 3 way crossover. Installed it's $850. So it's not cheap... but I don't really have much of an option.
