Opticoat best way to go
My new DGM BRZ is due in May 13 via a Gold Coast Dealer. From what I have read on this forum I am going to have the car Opticoated to protect and maintain the paint. What is the best way to preserve the factory paint job? Should the car go straight to the Detailer and avoid Dealership minium wage cleaners altogether. How can you do this without getting the Dealers nose out of joint? We have to come back to the Dealership for free service for the next 3 years.

My dealer washed mine, after he told me it would be very dusty from the transit. Similar experience to armythug, turned up and there were dried water spots on the car.
Your best bet would be to contact your nearest preferred Opticoat specialist, tentatively book it in for May some time, and ask them what they would recommend re getting it washed or not. Oh, don't worry about offending the sales agent - they'll just do what you prefer, but naturally they want to make sure the car looks good for you when you arrive to pick it up. |

I literally washed it and waxed it as soon as I got home. When I went in for the 'complimentary checkup', I asked them to write "NO WASH" clearly on the service sheet - never get dealer washes. |

You should never have to pay more than $500 for opti-coat. Considering their official website lists the price there. All 'authorised' dealers will only ever charge you this, people charging more are yanking your chain or offering different services.

Note: In NSW (not sure of elsewhere) Subaru's are detailed, at Port Kembla, before they get delivered to the dealer. You will need to contact Natalie (BRZ Co-ordinator) to ensure they don't detail your car. Make sure your dealer is also in the loop. Makes the job easier for your Opticoat guy |

The guy who Opitcoated mine on the Gold Coast told me that it wasn't a problem if the dealer detailed it first as he would be removing all of the imperfections afterwards. He did a great job and am more than happy with it. If you need a name just PM me and I will give you his details.
