This question is probably asked atleast 20 times a day, and the answer is usually Manual! However, i’m in a dilemma, long story short, i’m only permitted to drive Automatic vehicles until this time next year at least. With that being said, i’m aiming to have my BRZ by February 2023, it would need to be an Auto seeing as I won’t be able to drive a manual until November 2023.
This brings me to my question, should I buy my childhood loved car in an auto transmission, so I have it as soon as possible? Or should I hold out until November just to buy a Manual? I honestly don’t know what to think or do, I don’t exactly know how to drive manual, however; the BRZ is a good learning car. I’m not looking for life changing performance, in that 0.5 0-60 difference or whatever it is, i’m just looking for a fun, wow, car. I know i’ll get that out of the manual, but I really don’t think I can wait a whole year. Should I just buy the auto and maybe swap it eventually? |

The question is not why it should be manual or auto, To me its why you are not allowed to try a manual?
What kind of laws do you have where you are ![]() When I had my driving lessons Waaay back when we had the choice of learning on either one. I chose manual just because it was an opportunity to learn it while it was offered. Manual offerings are getting rare and this car has a good one. |

Buy an auto now and if you really hate it trade for a manual when you can. There are plenty of people that love their ATs and you may as well.
Don't plan on swapping trannys later as it is not as simple of just switching and the cost would be greater than just selling the AT and buying a MT car.

Don't plan to swap the transmission, it's a lot more difficult than it sounds, and it doesn't sound easy to begin with.
I'm pretty patient so I would wait for the manual if it were me. If you really want the car in February, the auto is pretty good... well, for an automatic at least. What kind of crazy place doesn't let you drive a manual transmission car...

Can't you just retake the driving test in a manual after learning?

I am not sure if that is an option.
I would say brzdyl has only just got their red P's. These are usually applicable for 12 months. P's platers have speed and power restrictions, passenger curfews and a zero-alcohol level. Do other countries have similar provisional systems? Personally, I would wait for the manual. |

here in america, we take a 25 question test (mostly sign shapes), and are asked to fog a mirror. then they send us on our way with a freshly minted license that allows us to endanger others with up to 10,000 pounds gvw.

But in America, you have driver education at school, don't you?
To go from L's (learners) to red P's (provisional), the kids need to have logged 120 supervised hours experience, do an extensive question test then do an on-road driving test. |
