Looking to change my trans and diff fluid soon, what your guy's go-to and why?

None of that fully synthetic stuff for me in the trans. Synchros like a little friction - their very job function specifically relies on it.

I made this switch a few days ago based off your continued posts suggesting it . I cannot praise it enough after having suffered through many changes of Motul 300.

I assume I'll be changing it more often, other car's UOAs seem to suggest additives disappearing quickly. How often do you change it during the season?

Use Motul.. better than stock.. but I'd be willing to try some of the other suggestions like Amsoil and Penzoil

Street car... 20k miles or so.

Race car... every 2-3 race weekends. I just did 4 double race weekends without a chance and it came out Looking rough so that was too long... still no grinds or crunches.

I just tried LiquiMoly's engine oil additive CeraTec which has been pretty amazing.
I reached out to LiquiMoly and they recommended to use MoS2 isntead of Ceratec and their High Performance Gear Oil with the MoS2. So I'm debating that now.


This is LiquiMoly's email:
"thank you for sending us your request regarding Ceratec's use in manual transmissions.
Your manual transmission on your Scion is better of using our anti-friction additive named MoS2 Anti-Friction for Gears. This additive is specifically designed for use in gearboxes and differentials and will be the best choice for your 6 speed transmission. Lower internal friction will add protection to gears, bearings and synchros.
Also make sure to use a high quality gear oil in the transmission, like our High Performance Gear Oil GL4+ 75W90.

What benefits have you noticed using the CeraTec? I didn't know that they also make gear oil. I'm going to look into that, thanks.

I've been on the fence about trying the Redline next fluid change and now I'll add that Pennzoil to my confusion. A while back I changed to Lucas and something else, don't remember what it was now, and they sucked so I went back to whatever the guy at the Subaru parts counter gave me in January. The shifting went back to at least as good as the original, maybe a little better because things were worn in now, but less than 10k later and the tranny is whining like it was never done so the next change is coming up sooner rather than later.

A lot of people have been recommending Motul Gear 300 for years which is GL5. I personally didn't like it.

Improvements have been really drastic.

My MPG has been 24's, and the drive down from nothern CA to southern CA have been averaging 24 mpg. It shot up to 34 (I think the ECU was re-calibrating still as my MPG seems to have returned to mid 20's .. but I'm not driving as much lately).

Engine has been incredibly smoother to redline (more so than before).

Absolutely not in the Diff! Just about any synthetic 75-90 gear oil in the diff. I’m partial to amsoil and motul for Diff

thanks! I am not going to put GL5 in a manual trans that has yellow metals in it, and not specifically asking for it. I've also used Pennzoil synchroshift in another platform I played with for a couple of decades. It worked quite well, and most guys used it.

Motul Gear 300 LS is what you want for the rear diff. Many people on this forum recommend a 50:50 Mix of Redline 75W90NS/MT-90 for the trans.

Both are good but the syncromesh from amsoil is full synthetic so when things get hot and fast the oil will prevent the synchro from adequately slowing down the gear and you’ll get a crunch. This is in track/racing scenarios.

I like the 75-110 but I race on the 75-90
