Drop-in K&N filter is the best bang-for-the-buck. Yo get slightly more from a full intake kit from K&N or Injen, but not much and some actually DECREASE engine power. Do research. But we're talking 5 HP at best.
A tune and a drop-in filter will get you some gains. You're in CA so there is not much you can do with the exhaust. But going catless and tuning is a cheap way to get more power. Gut the cats + tune is about the cheapest way to get more power. E85 is an excellent way to get more power, but if you ever need warranty work, you're pretty much screwed. FI is expensive and bye-bye warranty. |

i just can't get into the 'rebuildable' filters like the k&n. i don't like the inconsistent nature of a human hands re-oiling the filter to prevent engine damage, and i don't fully believe that re-building them properly removes all the crap that the filter first caught before the process.
so i always use non-reusable filters. i also throw away toilet paper after using it, but hey, call me a weirdo.

It'd be nice if that had a real build thread and not some questionable numbers, questionable mods and a chip on the shoulder.

I agree with most of the guys that the air intake and exhaust header should make a small but noticeable difference. With no mechanical mods I just started a new diet of 93 octane non-ethanol and noticed a small but satisfying increase in all performance parameters. Of course, you have to have a reliable source for such stuff. If you live near a large lake frequented by power boaters, you should get lucky and find a filing station that sells good quality juice. Your engine controls will make enough of a change in the tune, and your boxer will love you for it.

Yeah you should have been using 93 from the beginning. Even in stock form they are designed for it. |

I think the effects of non ethanol vs E10 are mostly placebo, except for the quieter HP fuel pump if that sort of thing bothers you. |

What is the difference between a OFT version 1 versus a OFT version 1.2 ? Another version ?
