A performance hybrid would be a blast to drive. Added torque from zero RPM, adjustable regen braking for more aggressive stopping power, plus you get to hear this every time you pull away from a light:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRECqhIZwIA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRECqhIZwIA[/ame] Toyota always starts their LMP1 car on electric power only from the pit lane, and then bump-start the IC engine, to reduce wear the wear on the clutch for long endurance races. It's a pretty cool little trick, and sounds awesome.

Still, I don't know that I want electric motor. They are WAY more complicated in build and modification than a mechanical system. Usually requiring a full replacement of the actual electric motor to create more power. That's my understanding of it at least. |

Whatever keeps this platform relevant, I'm down! I believe this will probably be an option, as opposed to the one-and-only version of this car in the future. I see probably three models available from the factory in the future: N/A, Supercharged, and this KERS-equipped hybrid if it comes to fruition. Not at all a bad lineup in my opinion. But I don't believe this Hybrid model would be available until the 2nd generation. Supercharger from the factory by 2015, then a refresh for 2017 with more power choices. Just my thoughts.

*Sploosh*
This would put me over the edge in finally getting an FR-S. Here's what I'd do: *Revised cam phasing to do Atkinson-esque cycle on low-load/cruising *IMA [Honda style] replacing the flywheel with a one-way bearing that allows for stop-n-go driving to operate on electric only. *relatively small battery pack [let's say 1KWh] in the rear seat footwells, rear seats deleted with a carbon fiber luggage shelf. *225 HP combined, 225 LbFt torque!

KERS tech in the FR-S will be nowhere near as cool as the LM GT car or even the Porsche 918, and will likely toned down for civility. Now if I could have the sound of that LM car my god I would probably have to keep a change of short everytime i started it...

Turbos and Hybrid power are both great. Why are you guys denying either one?
Personally, id love to see either one put in this car. Though i know the Turbo is already done, for us to be allowed an other option to get power is amazing and all those guys who deny Hybrid technologically are fools. Hybrid technology isn't only used to get good MPG, it can be used to get good power gains without using a Turbo or SC and not wasting lots of gas. Though turbos are starting to become extremely common, they aren't unique as they once were. Though still tons of fun and very easy to make or break a car. There are a few cars that are known for turbos though, First gen Saab 900 comes to mind...what a car. I can see where the person who developed the car is coming from; without the want for a Turbo, he wants to explore different routes, he wants to make us "Drivers" more versatile. He knows what hes doing and i trust him all the way to do what he likes with any car he makes. |
