Anyone have a good closeup of the paint? A few reviews have mentioned there is a soft metallic to the Ridge Green but it just appear as a solid in every pic I've seen.

No I haven’t seen one in the wild but everything I read and the photos on-line all say or show a solid green. Even the AI says that it is not a metallic paint. I don’t know where you are getting this info from but it’s bogus.

For all intents and purposes it is a flat green, but there is actually some metallic flake in it. You can see it a little bit in these pics, confirmed by an owner:

oops, never mind. This site doesn't link to the gr86 dot org site at all. Petty. Go there and search "hakone edition photos" if interested

The only post I have found is from someone who does not say he owns a Hakone or that he has seen one in real life. I believe he is going only by photos he has seen on-line. The photos posted by the op in that thread does not say its metallic. The post below is not the owner of the car shown in the thread.

Color is growing on me! Didn't realize there was a slight metallic flake to it! OG Hakone green is still undefeated.

I stand by my comments that there is no such thing as “slight metallic”. It either is or it is not a metallic paint.
Compare my grandson’s Crystal Black Pearl tS to a new, on the lot Hakone.

Doesn't look half bad in the sunlight. ...for a second gen, at least.

I hear ya, in almost every picture you see it looks 100% flat. But the few videos I saw where it was in the sun it looked.. maybe pearl? Mica? Perhaps "metallic" is a strong term.

Look at the A-pillar at around 2:44 in this video. Could be dirt or swirl I guess

I don't have a horse in this race though, like every special edition GR86 so far it has done the opposite of grown on me. Though I definitely need to see it in person to make the call.

I see nothing even close to pearl, mica or metallic in any of the pictures. Most of what looks like that in close up to me is either reflections or, in one case, water spots. Most likely all that is showing up is the clear coat, as the paint is flat but not matte flat.

Of course, those types of things don't really photograph well, but if its that hard to see the paint is likely flat (which is OK). Personally although I love a green car, this is not the green I would be looking for.

Youtube car reviewers from about 2 months ago have mentioned it. The color code is DMG and I've yet to run it through to my mixing bank to see what is in the color. It is still too new to be in our systems (PPG/Akzo Nobel).

Pretty on the fence about the color. Last gen Hakone was an easy yes on the color even with the 'ugly bumper.' This gens color... it's 'okay.' Sadly, I doubt I'll get to see the color in person with the 860 units pretty much being allocated already, none being local (searching through Toyota's site.)

I guess dealers are already getting them too!

After my last post on here I though to myself "duh hurr why don't I ask one of the guys who have the car?" and they confirmed there is something in there:

"IRL it definitely has some flake in the sunlight, it’s hard to capture on camera. It’s very subtle but it’s much nicer in person"

I think the most interesting thing about the color by far is the fact that it's a mystery whether it is truly flat or has some sort of reflective additive in it haha. Conspiracy theory grade stuff here.

Welp, that's OK, but I still like the BRG (British Racing Green - for the young-ens) that was on my 1970 MGB-GT.

So, just call me old -

Back in the early seventies I used to walk to school, are kids still allowed to do that?
and always would pass by some apartments and there was always a green MGB-GT
parked out on the street that never seemed to move, would always lust for it.
If I would have been a bit older I would have looked into getting one but by the time
my parents allowed me to get a drivers permit most green British cars
were unreliable as a purchase for a clueless new car guy.

My brother had a 2000 green Suzuki wagon his girls would call it La Grenouille.
The term was more acceptable around here than using the English term...

Happy New Year!

That story reminds me of the time, when I was 16, I lusted after a 1952 MG-TD. We were visiting my uncle in California. He had a housemate that had this MG that the top was shot and the paint was all cracked that he wanted to get rid of. He said that I could have it.

Well, my father said NO. He said that car wouldn't make it back to Ohio.

I was sooooo -

Great car!

When I was in high school we used to ride the city bus home every day. And every day we’s go past this vintage TD up on blocks. And every day my buddy said he was going to buy that car.

Summer comes and goes and the night before school restarts my old buddy falls to let me know he’s picking me up in the morning.

Darned if he didn’t pull up in that bright red MG TD, washed, waxed, and full of vrrrooommm.

It lasted almost for the entire school year before something mechanical waylaid it. Never saw it again after that last ride home.

What a memory!

I recall that when I was in HS, on Sundays I would work at my Uncles Chevrolet dealership (only if the fields on the farm were too wet to work). I would wash cars and pump gas.

For several months, on his used car lot, there sat a white 1953 Corvette. Nobody wanted it (hey, midwest, a roadster, with an automatic transmission - how boring) -

No, working for $1.00 per hour, I couldn't afford to buy it -
