Low Oil Pressure?
Hey guys,
I’m not entirely sure if I have a problem here but I am a little concerned...basically my engine’s oil pressure doesn’t seem to increase past 40psi after full warm up. I know the general rule of thumb is at least 10psi per 1000rpm but at 5k rpm and above, the oil pressure doesn’t go past 40psi. I initially thought I spun another bearing but my idle oil pressure is at ~10psi with no oil light at all. I just changed the oil to Motul 0w-30 from straight 30wt (Lucas Break-in Oil). Do you think it has to do with changing oil viscosity or do you think have another engine problem....? Screenshots from the video I recorded are attached. |

That's definitely low, but your idle pressure seems fine.
Where is your gauge getting the oil pressure? if it's not at the below location it might read different: |

What temperature are you checking oil pressure at?
What mods on the car?

The gauge is reading from the port right next to the A/C compressor. Car has a JDL Turbo Kit and JR Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler. The pictures I uploaded also shows oil temp. It’s the middle bar on the gauge cluster. I think it’s around 212-225F..

So if I change the pressure reference point and see an increase, should I still be worried?
I was under the impression that the pressure port by the A/C compressor gives more accurate readings since it’s basically the same oil journal as the main/rod journals... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd check the pressure switch port against Subaru's literature, then start worrying if it's low. Also make sure you test standing still and in neutral, so your turbo doesn't suck down a ton of pressure cause it's under load. Last edited by Yoshoobaroo; 04-03-2020 at 04:31 PM. Any update?? I spun a rod bearing last year. Had a block built by GCH longblock racing, installed sbd turbo kit that failed. They linked it to low oil pressure so upon installing an oil pressure gauge we have the same issue as you. Low idle pressure around 4-8psi and it won't go above 30psi at any rpm range.

I have pulled my oil pan and looked at my pickup, there was some stuff but i doubt it would make this much of an issue. |
