There is a good chance the market will always be “hot” or in other words this is the new norm. At least for a long while. And its all relative if you then need to turn around and buy in this same market. Not sure if this was an extra car or track toy so no need to replace or what he got instead.

That is good, now you just have the gamble that the market will change. It will at some time I hope. My brother did the same thing. He bought an A6 for $35K over a year ago. Then traded it in on a Diesel Canyon straight across. After a while he ended up selling the Canyon back to the dealer he bought it for for $40k. Now He is driving a 1999 Ford F-150 he inherited from our Dad.

I think that's just about how much I paid for mine new back in '13. For an 8 year old car to hold that much value is encouraging to say the least.
How much do the new ones cost? Something like 30-50K? |

The new GR86 should be around 30-34k. Reason isn’t the car holding value but the crazy market right now for used vehicles |

Also, it only holds that value if you have unusually low mileage. Carvana has a 2015 (which is 3 years older) for the same price because it has over 50,000 miles on it. A 2013 with 100,000 miles (which is near normal mileage) is listed for $17,990.

Overall, the twins have held value quite well. Not Sorry.

If you just go back a few years there were dozens of threads moaning and groaning about how bad the depreciation was.
Conditions change and values can go up and down like a pogo stick. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=112110&page=2

The used car market is absolutely insane right now, with how high prices are. That's likely to hold for a while as well, as the auto manufacturers have been hindered in production by the silicon shortage.
I bought my 2017 series.Yellow just a few months ago for $27K. That's barely less than the price of a new Gen2 base model. |
