Right oil temp for higher revs

Not really. Cold thermostat only suggests that the oil bypass. I have one of those too.

It's silly low, like under 10 above 250 F. Been a long time since I let my oil get that hot.

The only time I got it that hot was during a 30 minute track session. Around the 24 minute mark it finally touched 250F. That was my first time on track, and I would say I took it somewhat conservatively too. I see why anybody who would track these regularly adds a oil cooler and/or runs thicker oil.

I used torque app to track the temp, it stayed around 230-235F most of the session.

Yea, it bypasses the cooler, in other words, the valve is closed until up to temp.

I was under the impression that roughly 10% still flowed through the thermostat?

Not sure if every brand though?

Thermostat range should be looked at closely, a 90° C for the street would be my pick, it would negate over cooling and the oil would be in a happy place when you decided to floor it.

That's about the right size. My oil cooler is too big so bypass flow is enough to keep the engine too cold. Been thinking about the high-temp thermostat too. There used to be one for the mocal plate but I can't find it tonight.


I have the 72-row series 1. It'll keep the engine cool in the absolute harshest conditions. Would be perfect for endurance racing.
