Finally clicked on the ad and I must say it's not as bad as I thought, it certainly looks tacky but it's the kind of car that could hold it's own parked in a row of cars at any non-specific car show. Especially considering it's now 20 years old.

But I must agree with posters above, wouldn't spend any money on this model car at all, does not tickle my pickle, float my boat or get me off.

I thought the same way until a few months ago, rode along in a MK2 (1981-1986) and it was fantastic. At the end of it's run in other countries it was putting down nearly 180 horses and 210 ft-lbs of torque from a 2.8L NA I6 in a 3,000 lb chassis with what is now standard independent suspension using modern shocks and disc brakes all around. A lot closer to today's Toyobaru than any Corolla imo, I feel like they went back to 1985 and said: 'Let's get Supra performance in a car that is as economically viable for our customers as a Corolla' and voila: Toyobaru. But I'm probably crazy.

Worth noting: I would totally buy a first generation MR2, this Supra is much further down the 'would buy with money' list, but the MR2 is probably top 5 for me right now, probably the only Toyota car I will ever buy for myself from this day forward (maybe a truck, but unlikely). I like boxy cars, they're cheap and they perform marvelously with some blood sweat and tears.

My wife has banned me from looking at MK1 MR2 ads on Craiglist until we get the kids out of college. I'd probably buy every one I could find....

That ^Supra^ is gorgeous though! I could definitely see me adding it to the stable.

True, but maybe not. Not enough pics to judge accurately but you're likely right as the owner doesn't seem to care enough to buy a real camera.

Because a pure drag car is gutted. I've seen $100K+ Supras that have effectively been built from the ground up to on par with modern luxury cars. Lots of hate for Supras out there for some reason...

Twins are more expensive to build to high power levels, that's why they're rarely done. It's not that they suck. Either you didn't know that are you think it's still on the stock twins...

Didn't come with them from the factory and isn't needed. Plus, they don't have the modern lock down system we have these days to keep the mats in place. Should have been: *spends 200k on car, can't afford a real camera.*

This is destroying craigslist I spent a whole day one time just reporting all these damn ads. I'd like to hope that craigslist has a system to IP ban these asshats if they get reported enough.

He literally said he has invested so much work that it is way better than a twins turbo and Ryan Woon Supra, apparently according to him it's not a cookie cutter supraforums supra
Ryan Woon would kick his ass

That's maybe a $30k car depending on parts and install quality. And given the JDM vibe of them, it probably means it's not by a decent 2JZ-familiar shop.

It's an HKS twin turbo upgrade, not stock, but $80K for a 700 whp Supra is like paying $60K for a 250 whp FR-S...

Have some nopes.
IF he's being honest in the ad (big if), then it might be done correctly. Though I doubt it because SP Engineering isn't SP Racing (otherly known as Sound Performance, which is a big name in the Supra world).

Who knows what the HP of this car is as he doesn't state that (which is another red flag). Frankly since he's running Kumho SPT's on the damn thing it probably doesn't put the power down and there's a LOT of cut corners. It's pretty clearly about looks and being just that much faster than stock to get some credit.

No.

Maybe 50 years from now someone will recover this monstrosity from a barn and restore it to it's original glory.

I'm with you 100% as far as Supras go.

But what about the 1967-'70 2000GT?

Or the 1965-'69 Sports 800?

Or the 1970-'74 Celica?

I did enjoy my 74 Celica but it was a $200 beater when I got it and was just a cheap transportation car for me.
Though some of the others may be cool if I personally was ever looking for a car from those years I would go back to the muscle realm I am afraid.
Please don't hate me they were all I knew back then!

I suppose saying no Supra is worth $80k, thus means i hate them.

Interesting logic.

Haha. :-)

I'll forgive you if you'll forgive me!

My only "muscle car" was a '71 Firebird Esprit in root beer brown with a rusted out trunk and slipping automatic transmission. It was actually my first car but it was so awful to drive I sort of just parked it and bought a '77 Celica coupe to drive instead during my last year of high school in '02.

I bought three more Celicas after that, two more coupes and a Liftback for parts. I put several thousand $ into my little black '74 GT coupe which was really an incredible car, inside and out. Sadly, early Celica prices seem to have exploded in the last ten years. I think early Fiat Spiders are now the best bang-for-the-buck in small charismatic driving cars, especially with such great support from http://www.international-auto.com

Gotcha thanks I missed that part. I think he may have read more into it the comment then was there.
Don't think there is much hate going on on this thread just ridicule for that particular car and the ad and apathy for Supras in general from a couple of us.
In fairness I have never drove one and pretty sure I have never even actually see one in the wild and if I did/had may want one this second.
