I've been keeping this bit private for a while now, but regarding Consumer Reports, they definitely know of the issue. A few days after my FR-S made it into the shop for the CEL/idle issue, I learned a Consumer Reports owned FR-S was just finishing up with repairs at the same dealership...for the very same CEL/idle problem.

Also, from what I was told, repair time was about four days for that car. I've wondered if the car made a return trip to the dealer as it was one of the first repairs before Toyota/Subaru really figured out the ECU update.

Am I alone in wondering if the super speedy repair time of 4 days has anything to do with the fact that the dealer and Toyota knew this car belonged to CR?

No doubt that was the case. More curious to see if it has to come back.

Mine took 7.5 days. It was two weeks ago I got it back and now 500 miles later all appears good. I admit I'm still a little weary about it ever being an issue again; but, each day that weary lessens a little. By the way, only the ecu was replaced.

It's possible. Mine has chirping but it's really intermittent. It seems to just happen randomly?

Guess whaaaaaaaaaat? After 600 miles my idle was going crazy today in the same way that it was doing before(this is 600 miles after my ecu was replaced & reflashed). No CEL yet, but I'm expecting to have one soon.

Thanks for this and do please keep us posted on any replies you might get. I was all set to get on a wait list for an FR-S until I saw this thread. If there are going to be hassles then for me it kind of defeats the purpose. Now I'm thinking I'll just hang onto my current cars for a while until they sort the kinks :P

Good idea on waiting. The fact that the problem is coming back for some after all the parts have been replaced is not a good sign. It looks like we might be getting new engines at this point

I wouldn't bother with a new engine. I would Lemon Law the car and get a new one. If you're within your right I would go that route; why keep the rest of the car with miles and have a brand new engine when you can have both a brand new car with a brand new engine. Also there's new FR-S's inventory in the states. You could probably get into a new car weeks (maybe months) before a new engine could be delivered.

We have to remember that for the cars affected we're part of a stop loss calculus. The more money you loose for Toyota/Subaru the more they're going to pay attention to this problem, and to you.

brianlo622, FR-S, 13XX miles, 7096XX.

CEL and SL light came on on day 28 after I purchased the car, limp mode. Have been driving her in limp mode for the last 2 days, scheduled to take her in to the dealership tomorrow. Silly service advisor kept on saying "I bet its your fuel door cap" and I said "no.. please arrange to have a courtersy car for me"

little update: got the call this morning to go and pick up the car after 4 days in the shop. Got over to the dealership and the moment the car was started the CEL SL came back on. SMH. Walked back in and just handed them the key again. *sigh* All they did was re-flashed the ECU. I told them that there's more to it than that but no one wanted to listen. So this would be 2 out of 4 service for lemon law.
