Hail Damage
I've got a 2014 BRZ Limited that I purchased in early April. I thought the time was right in Chicago, with the dealer sitting on at least 11 2014 cars and I got a great price. 10 days after I got it, it got destroyed with hail damage from a freak storm. Every single surface on the car was damaged. It's been in the body shop at the dealership where I bought it for coming up on 3 weeks now and won't be done until 3 1/2 weeks is up. At this point, it's been in the shop longer than I've had it. Is it common for the work to take that long? They had to replace the hood and trunk lid, did paintless dent repair all over, traditional repair on the hood and strips above the windows. They've take out all the glass other than the door windows. At this point, I wish I had waited for the 2015 model and paid retail. There is a lifetime warranty on their work, but I just wish I wasn't in this position. Anything I should be looking out for if I ever get it back?

Sorry for your loss, but it could be because a lot of other customers queued up for the same reason

They are only replacing the hood and trunk lid. The hood is aluminum and that apparently doesn't do well with paintless dent repair. Estimator told me it doesn't bounce back to it's original shape like steel.

I had a PDR done on the hood. It was more of a crease than a dent though.

Really sorry about the damage--my Genesis got hailed on twice in two years, but neither time when it was that close to new. The last time there was a huge hail storm here people were waiting a month for their cars, just because of the backlog. You'll get the car back and it will be perfect (and if it's not, refuse it). This is why we carry full coverage insurance! I'd be equally upset if I were you, though, so I understand.
No reason to spend more on the 2015 for no real changes! |
