Setup Inquiry

So I have been browsing the forums for some time now and am looking over the information on different exhaust setups, manufacturers, and so forth. Currently, I am just running with a K&N drop-in filter and Nameless 2.5" axleback with 5" mufflers. I prefer this over the stock exhaust but I am far from satisfied as it does not have the tone that I desire. I would like to have a setup that has that nice boxer rumble but not obnoxious when I feel like driving a bit more spirited than usual. Noise is not much of an issue as I will be moving out of a HOA community to another area with ample separation between neighboring houses and I rarely hit WOT. Additionally, I am not worried about smog tests here in Florida but I do intend to get a tune to fix the CEL issue from going with a catless header.

I purchased an Invidia overpipe and Invidia front pipe (catless) from another member locally that is just sitting in the garage for now but I suspect that I will likely need to get a catted or resonated front pipe with the header/cbe setup I want which I have listed below this. Now for my inquiry, is anyone running with the JDL UEL Header and Perrin 2.5" Restonated CBE on a NA twin? If so, what OP/FP combo do you have? I am trying to decide on what front pipe that I should go with that is catted or resonated. Right now, my options are between the Invidia resonated front pipe, JDL catted front pipe, and Nameless Performance catted front pipe with or without the overpipe too.

Videos of the JDL UEL Header/Perrin CBE setup would be nice. I've already looked at a few online so it is coming down to the OP/FP combo that I need to decide on.

Possible Setup
  • JDL UEL or Tomei UEL Header
  • Invidia, JDL, or Motiv OP
  • Invidia, JDL, or Motiv Catted FP
  • Perrin 2.5" Resonated CBE

Well, @Michael, whatever you decide ........ I wouldn't throw/sell/give away your present setup. Just in case you want to go back to a set up where you can hear yourself think while driving........

humfrz - is no fun .....

I figured a resonated or catted FP with the resonated Perrin CBE would help a little bit instead of using the catless FP that I have right now.

You may want to keep a cat in the front pipe. Will help keep the rasp down.

With the JDL header you will want the Perrin Resonated exhaust for sure. That will be one nice sounding set up, will also be pretty loud.

You could always keep the stock mid pipe, and hold of on buying the Cat Back and keep the muffler back to see if that is pleasing

Great suggestion. I was looking into doing this as my purchase order would be header > OP/FP > CBE. Since the Perrin CBE occasionally goes for sale from another owner from time to time, I'm in no rush for that yet to save a little bit.

^ Watched both of those earlier today. I like the JDL OP/FP combo a little bit more but still undecided.

I thought the first video was a little raspy, to be honest, which is not really my thing.

It seems that it can get raspy at higher RPMs but that could be the video itself.

There's also the Gruppe-S UEL header, which is more-or-less a white label Tomei, and priced accordingly.

If you haven't seen mine already, this is with JDL UEL, JDL OP, JDL UQFP, and Perrin 2.5" resonated, running E85. Headphones recommended:

Thanks for that suggestion. I'm reading up on the threads for this header right now.
