Here are some interesting things:

1) One big monoblock brake kit with GR logos:




2) Coilovers with the only technical detail being the amount of lowering

Also, no camber plates.



3) The duck tail will be available separately

Might be useful if you want it, but get the Base trim, or a BRZ.



4) Fancy key fob cover

I wonder if those brake calipers will fit well under 18" wheels, because on the JP configurator that came out a while back said they could only be purchased with the 19" wheel option. Keep in mind this is the japan configurator for the japanese market. Hopefully the US market can buy the calipers separately.

This looks like the first time a really nice set of calipers can be bought from oem. The previous performance pack calipers were heavier and less rigid than brembo GT, AP racing, etc counterparts from aftermarket.

interesting the US spec gets the optional GR duckbill from factory. i'm sure a lot of duckbill owners will want a non-duckbill trunk. i prefer the cleaner non-duckbill trunk.

Do you guys think the calipers/rotors are rebranded from here? https://www.advicsaftermarket.co.jp/...kit/index.html tot I rem seeing Advics on the GR86 car back when they had that display with the rest of the tuner cars in Fuji(?) some months back.

From the link above, has nice info on weight:
Front calipers. 2.31kg
Front rotors, 345x30mm. 8.1kg
Rear calipers. 1.67kg
Rear rotors, 330x30mm. 8.5kg

Was curious to compare with Essex Sprint for previous gen, but I guess very similiar to what (hopefully) they will offer for this gen. Yes I know not fair comparison since the rotor diameters are not the same. From previous posts here:
Front caliper plus bracket 5.4lb ie 2.45kg
Front caliper only 4.8lb ie 2.18kg
Front rotor, 299x32mm (ring and hardware) 12.2lb ie 5.55kg
Rear stock calipers 2.8lb ie 1.27kg
Rear stock rotor, 294x24mm 13.2lb ie 6kg

The 1st-gen got a TRD rebadged brembo kit with 2 piece rear rotors (unlike 1pc for gen2):

The brake kit is also heavier compared to the stock brakes.

Overkill? Sure. Bling Factor over 9K? Hell yeah.

Personally, I would rather sway towards the AP Racing kit from Essex, due to pad thickness, overall size and weight + proven durability and availability.

Advics is a well known OE supplier for Daimler, Toyota,...

Toyota probably got a better price for the kit (vs the brembo kit for the 1st gen).

I've always really liked the kit from essex/apracing too. Some part of me just thinks it'll get a refresh or something soon. The identical kit has been out since 2013. I know it's an incredible kit, and "if it aint broke" yada yada, but it's going on 10 years. I want something refreshing.

Pros for GR Branded Calipers:
-Monoblock
-Lighter front caliper (since essex needs adapter)
-Larger front/rear rotors (+heat capacity)
-Bling, I mean those rotors really will fill up the wheels, front and back...

Pros for Essex/APRacing Sprint:
-Price, both upfront and consumable (most likely)
-Proven reliability and performance
-Lighter rear caliper
-Lighter rotors front/back

Pricing, importance of monoblock, and how it looks on the car will sway me in either direction. Too early to tell either way.

I think the caliper is older than 10 years :P

For me, personally, the grey anodized AP Racing calipers are "special". Mainly because they're used on a lot of cars in the pro and amateur rally racing in our part of the world
The spare parts are always available, the caliper itself (being a 2 piece construction) is also very easy to work on + worst case, it isn't too expensive to replace.

There are plenty of brake kits, if you want something refreshing. Just for the sake of argument, I would rather look at kits that are at least as heavy as the stock caliper/rotor combo, preferably less

For the ultimate JDM points acqusition, why not getting something like the Endless monoblock option?

It would be a dream to own Endless calipers. I didn't know I could even attain those for any reasonable price. I'll have to look into that, thanks.

Edit: Cheapest kit looks to be $5900. No chance! Although if a used set popped up..... Seeing those blue calipers under there, talk about baller status.

Possibly port installed, not from the factory. I wish they made it an option rather than mandatory. I also wish they made an option to make it black.

If actually port installed, I doubt the dealer can put in a request to skip the installation of the duckbill. Generally, if it's not a checkbox item, it's not something they can do.

From the looks of it the GR brake kit is likely the exact same as the Kouki TRD 4pot/2pot kit for the first gens. Still uses rubber hoses. Rotor dimensions and slots look the same. Willing to bet this kit is simply a decal swap with the Kouki TRD kit.

According to blackhawkjapan when I messaged them, they said TRD was unwilling to disclose the manufacturer for the Kouki kit but would confirm it wasn't brembo (zenki trd 6pot/4pot kit was confirmed to be brembo made). Makes me wonder if they went with a lesser known manufacturer because I'm sure if it were a big brand like endless, pmu, ap racing, they would've disclosed it.
