I hear that you can adjust the clearance by adding extra sealant.

we set the valves specifically to a tenth so that the engine runs smoothly. many think it has hydraulic valve lifters but that is wrong. The valves have to be adjusted every 60,000 km

Track or street driving? Most of us aren't going pull our engines to adjust the valves at 40,000 miles.

Did an autocross and gymkhana practice session today. Far more engaging than a track day - I should have started way sooner.

Bucket shim has very little wear, especially when a roller rocker is also incorporated. You may see some minor lash changes in the first service interval, not necessarily large enough to require adjustment. Further intervals typically see very little change if any. The rocker pivot sits in a galley and is acted on by pressurized oil. It is not acting as a hydraulic lash adjuster but probably does take up some play while the engine is running.

My understanding is the long term problem with lash is the loss of lash due to valve recession, not an increase due to wear and tear that you might see in a push rod engine.

In general this has been my experience. The worst is SOHC with tappet follower. Those always get out of spec and end up all over the place. Not a common in cars though, usually just air cooled motorcycles.

One thing I learned about valve lash adjustment, from my GS-R days, is that getting them into spec can help you pass SMOG.

I could see a tight valve cause issues on an emission test.

Finally washed it! Unfortunately was a machine wash since my kid loves them (the first the car’s ever seen)but I think it turned out pretty decent. A few marks left (melted rubber streaks from the track) but I’ll clean those off later.

Went out to the garage, looked at it's poor crushed left rear-end, and teared up a little.
I suppose I could drive it to a meet and claim I did it drifting for some street cred. (if you are reading this and don't know)
