Not something I have ever tackled so not sure hard it would be to do. Pretty sure that at this point in time it is something I personally would just pay for though.

I agree! At least now I know that you were serious and just didn't specify which car. Thought you were trolling with that first post of a front CV joint in a RWD car.

I've done this on my own car. 328.50 is not bad considering that its about a 1-3 hour job for a backyard mechanic (1 hour if you've done it before, 3 if you have not).

Hardest parts were breaking the axle free from the diff (no, you do not have to drain it). And, for me, getting the axle seated back in the diff. I later learned this is quite easy with a 4lb hammer (from Scotty Kilmer). You can see the whole process below.

its my understanding you have to have special tools to do a cv axle but i have never done one myself...

thats not a bad price at all. I was pretty dang close with $300. just make sure the thing has a lifetime warranty.

if this was the Price is Right, you would have a pretty good chance of winning!

No special tools needed outside what a backyard mechanic would already have.

A jack, wheel chocks and jack stands or acess to a lift. Gotta get the wheel off the ground safely.

A pin/punch to de-crimp the OEM axle nut (or a smaller flathead screwdriver if you don't mind pounding on your tools).

A big socket for the nut itself (don't recall the size, but could look it up),

A breaker/cheater bar to get enough leverage to break the nut free.

A medium length pry bar, to remove the axle from the diff.

A torque wrench to properly re-torque your bolts

A metric wrench and socket set (I think 10, 12, and 14 mms are needed)

A new axle nut or you could re-use the one you just took off. I replaced mine as it cost like 8 bucks. PN# SU003-02864

A Big Heavy Hammer to tap the axle back into the diff.

Axle grease

Time, and shower afterwards cause you'll probably get dirty.

Ya, must be a Prairie price. Be an easy $500-$600 bill around here.

LOL Not my rainbow umbrella. Kind of telling you caught that instead of the bikini in the foreground though.

Oh and now my cat is pissed at you for making me laugh so hard right out of nowhere.
