i made a platform/storage box,

and have posted pictures here several times,

its great, and super easy with how the rear is designed. Basically yank the rear seats, look at the layout and potential mounting points for hinge and face and how the rear armrests/console provide a support location for lid.

I'm having a hard imagining how that works, and I guess I will have to thinking of something to work in place of the third brake light as I remove it and made one for the head liner instead. I'm in no hurry for pictures if you'd still be willing to post some. Sorry to hear that you baby is in the body shop.
thanks

But it's pretty simple. just a buckle that hooks to 3rd brake light, velcro that seals the edge to the rear deck, a knob near the corner that's installed into the speaker plastic trim with elastic to hold the upper corner, and another knob near the speaker hole with elastic to hodl the middle. the rest the rest just drapes down.

You can see how it's installed in the japanparts pics.
Do you know any other places to get that privacy cover?

Japanparts would cost me $170 after shipping by sea

Japanparts ships by air usually, and this item will literally fit in a normal EMS envelope.

I'm guessing nigel can get it too.

As for the mounting, basically any way it can secure to the area above the rear seat will suffice, so if you don't have a 3rd light on the deck, use the existing holes or something?

Basically the upper edge is secures w/ velcro, the sides are looped around anchor points.

If you look at the pic of the cover
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55566

You'll see the top edge is along the rear shelf
the edges of first lateral "line" is where the first anchor point is
the lower lateral "line" at the level of the center console is where the second anchor point is.

The anchor points are like little mushrooms w/ a cutout for the elastic loop to hook on to.

The cheapest shipping by air is estimated at 90 USD for me:
https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/44595

I'll PM nigel and see if he can hook me up.

I take it then the cover is cloth and is stretched and held in place by the anchor points? I had thought it was a stiff material like a thick paper board cover with cloth.

Yes, it's all cloth, with reinforcement at the anchor points and the first lateral "bar" that goes across. There's holes four the rear seat fold-down latches, so you can tuck it behind the rear sear when desired w/o removing the part that's attached the the rear shelf. it's actually quite convenient and gives the interior a cleaner look.

Very true also made for the cleanest battery relocation I've ever done on any of my cars.

Is that a solid bar or some thing that can collapse to allow it to fit behind the seats?

And thanks again for take the time to describe how that works

@aznatama any chance your car will be back from the shop soon so we can see some more pics? I cant find any online besides the catalog pic and I'm trying to decide if I want one of these.

I know you said its cloth, but how's it feel? Durable? Would a hard stop cause stuff to roll through the cover from the trunk?

Agreed.

But this is also why I'm really interested in the privacy cover since it seems like it is easy to stow away when you actually need the back seats, and easy to set up when you want the extra trunk space.

It's not rigid at all, the cloth is a good quality and about as thick as a good t-shirt.

At first when I got it, I was a bit put off at what I got for the cost, but after installing it, I'm quite happy with it.

I'm not sure when I'll get my car back though. It's in for some major repairs (see my thread in brz section).

I think you can make this yourself for about $50 if you're handy with a sewing machine and can stitch large stretchy cloth straight... But it's a lot of hassle.

my own DIY Privacy Cover

After giving it some thought I decided to do my own version of a DIY Privacy Cover. It may not be perfect but I'm happy with the result.
