Quick hunch to pass along before I exit this thread - next time try doing dyno pulls at much less than full throttle. I suspect your A/R modified header will show low rpm torque gains under those conditions vs an unmodified header.

Thank you. I did learn something from the comparisons. Look at the comparison of stock tunes, pictures 1, 2, and 3. The un-modified header performed really badly because there wasn't enough back-pressure for the stock tune. This car comes with such a restrictive exhaust that the stock tune has a lot of valve overlap. Shiv has tuned that overlap out of his stage 2 tunes because they are for headers and more open exhausts. I believe now I might make better power from a stage 1 tune for 91 Octane with the 0420 error turned off. I'll have to load one up and try it tomorrow. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Could it be more low-end torque?

I worked on my exhaust today because the over pipe was rattling on the sub-frame. I also wanted to switch out the 2.5" catless front pipe for the stock catted pipe to see what it would do for power and MPG. Wow, what a difference. Starts quieter. Takes less throttle to accelerate, (as seen on the OFT as throttle %). Could it be more low-end torque? I don't know, but it sure feels like it. Because I'm using less throttle to accelerate, my city MPG has gone up. I'm going to give it a week to evaluate the pros and cons and decide whether or not to change it next weekend. The extra power could also be caused by the flange on the over pipe at the header. I mounted it slightly crooked to get more clearance over the sub-frame. That edge could be reflecting pressure waves back up the header primaries. I should probably straighten it out next week to eliminate that possibility.

whenever my flanges were a bit crooked i just slightly loosened the nuts and gave it a few hit with a rubber mallet and it lined right up.

Here's where I'm at with this. The dyno pulls showed there is a consistent loss of about 5-10 hp with the modified header over the unmodified header. I had the unmodified header coated and installed it. I now have a partially stripped head stud and an exhaust leak. Power is not what it should be, and the leak interferes with the MAF scaling I need to do to compensate for a Skunk2 intake without insert, (about 3.125" wide). I found just recently however that the VVT is the way to compensate for changes in back-pressure, not by welding in inserts. I changed my AVCS intake and exhaust safe tables to match @mad_sb's safe IAM1 tables after reading the AVCS tuning thread you started. VVT changes not only valve timing, but lift and cylinder fill % as well as compression ratio. I think it is the single most important change to make with our ECU's and yet so little is known about it.

So in the end what everyone told you ended up being true. It wouldn't work and you wasted your time.
