I have not looked closely at the 86 steering wheel. I don't think it helps living in s. Utah desert and the sun constantly beats down. Name: Resized_20170609_151827.jpeg

-Obviously it handles like a dream.
-Looks 2x what it costs
-I am 5'6" and 150 lbs and everything is the perfect size. Seats feel amazing.
-Love that this car has a back seat (even though tiny) so I can take the kids to school or run them around.

A few things I don't love:
-Love the size of the steering wheel, but whatever material it is wrapped in is downright awful. Makes my hands super sweaty. Any suggestions. I feel like a bowler with my hand constantly in the air vent to dry it off.
-The trunk lid needs to be slammed for it to latch. Just in 2017?
-The sound tube (plugged, first thing i did after bringing it home) Will full delete soon.
Welcome!

I had the same problem with sweaty palms (not sure if they changed material for 17). I got some leather driving gloves, very thin, some venting, no fingers. Palms might still sweat a bit on a hot day, but the wheel doesn't feel slimy anymore.

It might be worth it to invest in gloves especially when I go on long trips. I am going on an 8+ hour trip next week. I will return and report.

Congrats on your purchase!

Good to see you will get some use from the back seats for a few more years at least..

Sweaty hands? Might be the excitement of getting in to your new toy! Just get some gloves if you need..

My trunk lid needs to be slammed fairly hard also, might be a fix somewhere on the forum but I'm too lazy to search for you today.

BTW nice color

Enjoy!

Definitely a known and not great thing. The lid is very light, while the struts that open and hold it up are pretty strong, so you have to close it like you mean it more often than not. Even more concerning when you have a car with a spoiler and have to find yourself pressing on that to close the lid after a failed attempt.

Perrin makes a small plastic handle that you can bolt onto the inside of the lid so you have something to grab that isn't a painted surface. It should also give you enough leverage to pull the lid closed with enough force to do the job without having to go full Hulk/He-Man/She-Ra on the lid. Quite an oversight, IMO, from Subaru and Toyota. They could've even gone with a cheap solution and given us a strap like those on the rear seat back bolted to the lid. It's like 5 cent's worth of material.

Funny that you mentioned the steering wheel. I bought my 2013 FR-S used, and the steering wheel feels sweaty/sticky. Yuck! I tried cleaning w/ water, but that didn't do the trick. Need something stronger. As for the trunk, I do have to somewhat slam it closed, so it's not just you.
My 13 FRS also got the steering wheel all gunky. Hands get sweaty with these cars. I used mothers leather cleaner and mothers leather polish which made it feel soft and smooth like new again.

Yeah water didn't work for me either.

New to the forum. In northern VA and recently purchased a 2013 FR-S with 20k original miles. These things move fast and are very hard to find up this way. I'm very excited to be a part of the forum. This car is, hands down, the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever drove. I've had everything from a 1997 Eclipse GST to a 2015 Chevy Colorado. Multiple Honda CBRs of all engine sizes. 14 vehicles in total and I love this FR-S. It's a keeper and a long term project for me. Currently only running a TRD Cat-back exhaust system with no other performance modification. Full exhaust system with headers, tune, coilovers, and a handful of other modifications to get rid of that famous power dip but without any boost included are my goals. It is my current DD and needs to be reliable while passing local inspection requirements (yes, catted header...). Leggo!
