Moving to NoVA - Advice on car work?

I'll be moving from southern California to NoVA in a month or so and wanted to ask around about how everyone gets car work done. I'm looking to rent a 2 bedroom unit or townhouse near a Metro line to get into the city, and it's looking like there are almost zero options that have a private garage spot to fix whatever I broke at the last track day. Places with garages tend to be 3+ bedroom townhomes or full houses and are way more space than I need at this time.

How is everyone getting work on their cars done? There is a DIY garage I've been using in LA, but I couldn't find anything similar in NoVA.

None of my friends can afford a home either, lol! House prices seem almost as bad as LA.

You could consider a storage unit and basically use it for a garage/shop, I know some people do that. A twin should fit inside a 10x15. Lengthwise would be really tight, but you could leave the door open when you're actually working.

I would definitely do that, but don't most places ban car work (basically anything other than storage?) Or do some not care and turn a blind eye

A) Live much further away to get a place with a garage.

B) Limit yourself to doing work you can get done in the parking lot of the apartment you rent, in a day. Anything bigger, pay someone to do.

C) Find roommates and get a place with a garage.

D) Rent a storage unit, keep your tools there, and work on the car in the storage unit/outside the unit. You've gotta find the right storage place for this one to work.

I've seen carpentry work done at them for sure. If you're going to ask a place about their rules I'd be as vague as possible but it's pretty clear there's variability in what storage places will allow. Personally I think I'd try for option C above.

I’m renting a garage at summit point and have a lift there. Something catastrophically breaks and my wife comes to pick me up. If you (or anyone here) want to do some DIY, Pm me and I can work something out on a case by case basis

Lol you’re drunk. A $500k house here would be $1.5M in LA.

I used to let people wrench at my place, or I’d go to them for installs, but I’m moving to BFE.

Car work in NoVA might need a bit of a different approach compared to SoCal. DIY garages might be less common, but some communities have shared spaces or auto shops where you can do minor fixes.
