@Sniepster
I would not wait as continued wear will also scratch up the shaft. Also risks clutch drag and grinding gears. |

Thank you all for the inputs. Just placed an order with Verus for the fork, TOB and pivot. Should get here in 2 weeks and will mount them as soon as they're here. Will keep you all updated with pictures when I drop the gearbox.

I had mines replaced at about 40k miles. Since I had a 2013 BRZ, it went through the valve spring recall which is an engine out procedure. Dealer was cool, they just charged me for parts + 30min labor rate for replacing the TOB. Clutch was still good. It was making a slight noise that changes when the clutch is engaged/disengaged. Then again it was my first manual trans car.

UPDATE
I have finally managed to get the parts and mount them. This is a PSA!!! If you start getting a light rattle coming from under the shifter and a slight squeak audible on the outside CHANGE YOUR TOB. DO. NOT. WAIT. My TOB was absolutely shot, it span freely if you played with it. DO not wait for the TOB sound to get worse, it's already too late! I have also installed the Verus fork and pivot. Will come back in 50k miles to let you all know how the TOB is doing lol |

I had my TOB changed when I had my recall. During that time, I knew something was up. So I changed not only the TOB but the clutch, the flywheel and pressure plate. Good thing I did that cause, I requested the parts to be returned and low and behold the pressure plate fingers where all rusted, the springs on the clutch were rusted and the TOB was rusted and had a screeching sound when it spun.

I would also like to add that after i changed the tob, fork and pivot the car is more "driveable", first and second gears are slightly less crunchy when cold and the clutch pedal feels softer.

A lot of good information here, so thank you!
94k miles, bought car 60k certified pre owned. Last winter my 2014 BRZ started making a whirling sound when I pressed the clutch but only during cold starts. It goes away after a few minutes of driving. No other symptoms. Once the weather got warmer the whirling sound was completely gone on cold starts. Fast forward to last week when temps dropped to the 50s and the whirling sound is back again during cold starts when pressing clutch and it disappears after a few minutes. Cannot hear anything from the outside of the car and the car drives perfect. I’ve decided to change the clutch (oem),tob(revised),pivot ball, flywheel. My dilemma is the clutch fork. Do not feel like spending $200 on an upgraded fork when I’m using oem clutch. Also, are there any clutch kits that come with the revised tob? Last edited by iag48st; 10-20-2022 at 05:40 PM. The Exedy OEM clutch kit i got comes with the updated TOB. I would think most of them would come with the good one now but best to check. When I had clutch replaced I was on a time crunch and didn't end up getting the clutch fork. so far zero issues. If you have the time and the funds I would recommend it (always a good idea to replace weak point when you have things apart anyway) but it doesn't seem like its a must do if you aren't beating on the car and doing autoX and track days or things like that. |

My 2017 is at 113,000km and counting. Curious how much longer the "revised" TOB is with the different grease they use.
