I had no frame or suspension damage and the engine itself was totally fine minus the intake and several things near it being destroyed.

Don't know for sure but my guess is that the OP does not have the resources or ability to repair himself. It is really simple to say "just do it yourself" but the number of people with everything needed to do this is pretty low.

It's called "math".

Insurance is a very profitable business.
Otherwise they wouldn't do it.
You're on the sucker end of that deal

The deck is always stacked in favor of the house.
If your insurance is cheap, actuary has determined you're unlikely to make a claim, statistically speaking.

Over time, you will lose. That's why they make a profit. Basic.

Poor people need insurance, and stay poor.
Rich people self Insure and are basically in the insurance business themselves. Profit.

I'd op is dumb enough to not have $25k in cash, which is why he skipped insurance, then it's a safe bet he can't fix things either .

Typical.

Comp is NEVER cheap.
NO insurance is cheap.
Stupid people think insurance is cheap.
Because statistics.

Even If your comp is $1 that's still profit for the insurance company, because expected value. If you make a claim, your rates will be adjusted to your new risk profile. Evens out in the end, or the insurance companies would not exist.

No, but there are many financially savvy people out there.

Rich people don't waste money on excessive insurance. Insurance feeds off the poor.

Extended warranty
Travel insurance
Wedding insurance
Aflac
Cell phone insurance

All stuff that makes the poor pay even more..

Yeah that's true, but to be fair I did it in my little garage buying harbor freight tools as needed and it was my first time ever doing something like this. But I also wanted to do this and even though I'm not a super experienced mechanic, I have pretty much always fixed my own cars because I couldn't afford to pay someone else.

his car and the car you bought aren't even remotely close to having the same damage, his car is way worse and has frame damage. best bet is to buy a flood damaged car and swap all your good components over or tow it home and part out every good part and scrap the shell.

Assuming you own one, do you have insurance on you home or do you self-insure that as well?
