What kind of search range are you looking at? Here's a few I found in the DC area:

I just bought a 2013 Nissan Frontier at the begining of the year that was 1,400 miles away....flew in and drove it back. It was one of 2 in the entire US optioned exactly like I wanted and it was listed at a VERY good price. If you know what you are looking for and have already test driven the vehicle of interest, then look across the whole US for the best deal you can find on one and fly in for a few hundred $ and drive it back. You get a new vehicle and a road trip out of the deal! Just need to account for state taxes/registration/liscensing to bring it in to your state.

I will have to second the looking further for your car. I picked mine up from a dealer in NC while living in NE. The biggest issue my car was new so less worries about random issues with a used car.

Dealing via email with the internet department of a dealership is one of the easiest things I've ever experienced in buying a car. Either they work with you and get you the information or extra pictures you want or you just move on to the next dealer. I never give a phone number until I know its a car I want to purchase that way you never get random calls etc. Also I think the internet department is one of the lowest pressure sales vs the regular floor.

Go out in your area and test drive the 13/14 and if they don't work for you spread out your search. Even a few hour drive is worth it and the car is amazing on road trips

I'll definitely search a little further afield (within a 2-3 hour drive). Unfortunately, because of work and the need to replace my wrecked car within a week or so, I'm a little pressed for time and so can't really fly to get it.
