Thanks. That's useful information. Paying that much and then having to replace it in a year because it's yellowed isn't worth it.

FWIW mine has been on for over a year and still looks brand new. Weathertech is also known for standing behind their products. If the cover prematurely yellowed I think they would send a replacement.

You probably do not get it. It has nothing to do with protecting plate from elements. License plate cover is designed to interfere with flash strobes in red light or speed cameras and prevent clear picture of the plate to be taken. This is a beauty of them.

LOL. That doesn't work. This cover is not marketed that way, but the ones that are sold as protection against traffic cameras have been tested and shown to be bullshit.

There's one guy who developed a $300 frame that had strobes in it that would flash in sympathy with the traffic camera flash, and that thing actually worked... until Redflex made a simple alteration to their firmware that makes the camera take two photos faster than the capacitor in the strobe could recharge. And even when it worked, it only worked if the camera had a flash.

Don't waste your money and get tickets anyway.

This thing is completely passive. Usually surface of cover is treated special way, so that it diffuses light from specific directions. Also luminiscent die can be added to convert UV light that contained in Xenon flash spectrum into visible light. Bith technics reduce contrast of license plate photo made by camera, up to the point when it cannot be read reliably.

Of cause no one will advertise this feature, because it is in fact illegal.

And doesn't work. The link I provided above is all passive countermeasures, either coatings or overlays. None of them did what they were supposed to do. Because physics.

$40 is a lot to spend on pitted and oxidized yellowed plastic that will have to go into the trash anyway when it's not 'clear' anymore.
