A couple of seconds of oil pressure light after unscrewing oil filter
I am using the OEM oil filter (the black JDM one).
Lately, since I added an oil cooler, I have been particularly obsessive about my oil levels and oil pressure (I don't have much to go on since I don't have a gauge :/, just the OEM light). I unscrewed the oil filter to readjust the cooler lines. Upon reinstalling and cold starting the car, I noticed that the oil pressure light lingered for maybe a couple of seconds before going away. I am guessing it was because it had to fill the filter? The next start (albeit not a cold start) did not do this. Any damage done to the engine? I assume this is within the range of normal treatment to the engine because not everyone is going to pre-fill their new filter when changing oil. Of course, having an oil filter means there is more oil and resistance for the oil pump to push around, so I am trying to make sure that my "preventative reliability"mod is not going to hurt my engine in the long run.... |

Did you know that you can crank you engine to get oil pressure by holding down the throttle pedal and turning the key or pushing the start button? That is what I do if the car has set for a significant period of time.

At idle you will have to run for many minutes without oil pressure to cause damage. Everything is coated in oil and there is enough lubrication during start with an empty filter.
