The Cayenne Turbo S e-Hybrid is an insane SUV. Faster than the "Lamborghini" Urus, weighs around 5700 lbs and has front brake rotors larger than 17 inches in diameter.
Tricks only get you so far though, and the consumables expenses would be insane. I have seen a Macan on track though (at HPDE). Was a bit entertaining, though not as entertaining as the Volvo 240 wagon with fully built suspension LOL.

Apart from the expense of purchasing two vehicles instead of one, as well as limited garage space, another factor is ancillary costs like servicing, registration and insurance. Here in Australia this can easily add up to a couple of grand a year or more, per car. You really need deep pockets or a strong desire to own multiple vehicles to justify throwing thousands of dollars at maintaining, insuring and registering multiple vehicles, especially if you are able to make one vehicle work for your lifestyle.

^unless you drive both cars at the same time (not sure how that's physically possible haha) then maintenance is a fixed cost, either way. Insurance and taxes and registration fees? Well that's a function of how crappy someone's government is

Back on the video, its impressive how fast you can make a lumbering SUV with enough added power, big brakes and fat, sticky rubber. Along with ultra sophisticated TC and stability programs (that were working overtime to prevent that X7 from tipping over!). But as the Stig said that doesn’t make them sportscars, just fast family haulers. Obviously dollar for dollar a dedicated sportscar will still be faster than an SUV in the same price segment. Compare a $30k SUV to the $30k sportscar (instead of a $100k super SUV) and see which gets better lap times. So an amusing but ultimately pointless video.

Some cars yup, others not so much - my old 4Runner is a solid daily for <$9000. And I can re-sell it later for pretty close to that if I decide. So really very little depreciation, virtually no property tax. I have insurance, which is fairly low, but it's there. And gas is probably the worst as it gets pretty bad mileage, but hey gas is pretty cheap right now: ) I have my FR-S now which is an 'economy' sports car that I originally purchased for practicality, and it does that balance between practical/low cost/lots of fun better than most cars. But I now have my eye on a 2015 F-Type R as prices are coming down. Despite having kids, I now have the flexibility of having a completely impractical two seat supercar because I have my 4Runner as a backup. Keep it nice and cozy in the garage for nice days, keep the mileage down (classic car/weekend car insurance is much cheaper), retains value, and I have the best of both worlds instead of a compromise car that tries to do everything. That's my point/perspective, just trying to convey an alternate way of thinking, YMMV and that's all good. Not going to debate it. |

New cars are. Used off lease or CPO not so much.
They decrease in price if you keep them long enough. No payments on my 04WRX for 12 years. Car runs like new. No payments on an 05 Acura MDX for 9 years. Car runs great. I do all my own maintenance that I can. Neither are as nice as a new car, but damn they get cheaper every month. I mean they work just as well as my 16 BRZ which I am paying $500 a month right now. But I will own that soon so the BRZ will get cheaper by years end. I realize that younger folks pay higher insurance and stuff, so multiple vehicles can get expensive, especially if you don’t wrench. Benefits of age, good credit, good jobs, no accidents or tickets is paying $260 a month insurance for 4 vehicles. And that’s in NY. |

All cars are expensive, depending on your income level. Used, off lease, CPO are still expensive.
As @Tcoat and others have said, each car in your "fleet" adds expense, and the majority of people have better things to spend their money on so every car purchase is a compromise. If you bought a vehicle for every purpose you need one for, you'd have to own a dozen. Examples: Truck for hauling stuff too messy or tall for a car Motorcycle when you are by yourself and its just a quick trip commuter car, probably electric, for back and forth for work. Maybe an eBike? family/friend hauler for when you have more people than seats etc... Even if you have multiple cars, each one likely serves more than one purpose and is a compromise between those missions.

I would not own two cars for myself right now if I had two car payments. That is a big expense and money could be used better. But if you buy a new car and keep your old car, it’s a different story.
For example, my best friend has been leasing cars because he hates any maintenance and he can afford it. He always makes fun about how many cars I have. But when we did the math he is spending way more money in the last 15 years on the cars he has gotten. Higher insurance for newer cars, taxes and fees for each new purchase. He saves in maintenance but the high monthly payments put him over the top. Think about it, even a 300 a month lease is 3600 a year. I can’t even tell you how many years it would take to spend 3600 on maintenance for 4 cars. Even with tires and multiple sets, it’s a number of years. One advantage he has is that new car smell and feel, as well as tech, if that’s your thing. |

Either its built into the lease (so he's paying it) or he has a maintenance package (so he's paying it) or it's out of pocket. The maintenance on a car is pretty constant regardless of it's age. My 2004 Suburban costs no more or less to maintain than it would have when it was new. Unless you are including repairs as maintenance.

Your "alternate way of thinking" works well for you and that is cool but looking down on others because they don't need nor want an off road beater and dedicated fun car as well as something they use daily is ludicrous.
