Fuel economy was high on my list of criteria. I wanted a rear-wheel drive, manual transmission, two-door, fixed roof sports car. When I purchased my BRZ in 2013 I believe the twins had the highest fuel economy of qualifying vehicles. The Genesis coupe was a close second, followed by the BMW 135i, then the Ford Mustang. (looking at fueleconomy.gov)

I've averaged around 31 mpg so far with my BRZ, mixed driving.

Just curious, how much of the price difference is taxes?

About 40% which is actually the painful part.
Same with beer and liquor. I can go to Detroit and buy a case of beer that is made a few miles from my house for $14. That exact same case of beer with taxes here would be $39.
Don't let anybody tell you our health care is "free".

I logged in to comment on the chuckles we get from hearing Americans complain about "expensive gas"

Worst part is, we have the stuff - we just don't have refining capacity....

I don't even release the clutch pedal until I'm over 2000 rpm.

Not the most fun or the best economy I have ever gotten from a tank but shifting when the arrow comes on @ 2K and following the speed limits around my area can get some pretty good #'s. The math says 38.02 MPG.
automatic with stock tires?

Highest I got consistently was 38 with 100% highway and my nameless track pipe. Before the track pipe I'd get around 36. When I switched to my HKS quad exhaust I now get around 35. City driving has always been about 25-28. All of this in the summer on MPSS tires.

Gas mileage? What is gas mileage?

Gas price in KSA is $0.16 per liter which equates to about $0.60 per US gallon.

Heck I just picked mine up Saturday, and to be honest I am still about half learning how to drive stick and my in car gauge is saying I'm averaging 30.5mpg.

In stock auto form my actual consumption is 50% more than the car's official rating. I drive my car like every tank could be it's last. No regrets.

There is more than one way to have fun with a car, even if it's a fun car that's not designed to be a fuel economy champ.

Post

there is enough tq @ 2k as the op mentioned where he shifted.

also staying out of the torque dip (3.5k - 4k rpm) can yield good avg mpg.
